Auburn just doesn't really produce NFL talent. Might be our biggest hurdle in recruiting.

Good one. That guy was a stalwart for the Bengals for a long time.

Brandon Jacobs would be a good one for AU. They never knew what to do with him on the Plains, and he got MUCH more out of his NFL career that I ever thought he would.

Easily Jason Peters for Arkansas imo. He played TE at Arkansas where the best he did was his junior season when he was second team All-SEC. Went undrafted and was picked up as a FA by the Bills who started teaching him how to play tackle. He went on to play in 5 straight pro bowls from '07-'11 before rupturing his Achilles tendon twice in the span of a few months. He was arguably one of if not the best LT in the league during that timespan.

Didn't he think that Bear held him down in college or something? Like he wasn't able to throw the ball as much as he wanted to.

BJGE is not great by any means but I did not even realize he was a good college player when he was at Ole Miss. So I'll go with him

Technicalities... Alabama players won the first three Super Bowl MVPs. Bart Starr in 1 and 2 and then Namath in 3.

Can't pick just one, but it would come from this list:

Dan Hampton
Joe Ferguson
Steve Atwater
Lance Alworth
Billy Ray Smith

All of those don't exactly fit your criteria of guys who were good but not great in college and went on to NFL greatness. Those guys were phenomenal in college and lived up to their NFL potential.

Probably the guys who didn't stand out too much in college but became great pros are two guys who had their positions changed after they got away from Nutt:

Jason Peters - serviceable TE in college, to All-Pro OL in the NFL

George Wilson - very good WR in college, to team captain at Safety in the NFL.

Peters is the prime example. Someone else said him earlier in the thread too. Good example there.

Every QB worth his salt wants to air it out and show what he can do - that doesn't mean that approach is what's best for the team. Coach Bryant & Joe didn't always see eye to eye on the field or off the field.

Historically Bama has never been much of a passing team. The philosophy was always run the ball and stop the run, period. It's hard to argue with the success that line of thinking has brought to the program.
