As a Bama fan in football some may say Saban after Shula but I gotta go with The Bear after Ears Whitworth.
In basketball I'm hopeful the transition from Avery to Oates will turn out great for the program.

Don’t think you could surpass Billy the Drunk for Cal.

Avery was bad but he wasn't bad enough to make it the best coaching upgrade in basketball history even if Oats is fantastic.

Without question.

Shula was a mediocre coach but he wasn't terrible. Whitworth is without a doubt one of the worst coaches in the history of the SEC. In 1958, Alabama went from one of the absolute worst coaches in the game to, up until recently, the undisputed GOAT.

Whitworth to Bryant is the greatest upgrade ever, football or basketball, in any league.

Anyone who disagrees better provide one hell of a better upgrade.

On the flip side of that, going from Melvin Watkins to Billy the drunk was awesome.

The Vandy coach before James Franklin to James Franklin because he was looking at overcoming not just an atrocious record, but also overcoming a rock solid 40 years of losing football before turning that around.

Dabo, he's about to make the Saban dynasty a

Going to land the top 4 recruits in 2020, currently have 6 (+2 more to come) in the top 50 and will have 13-14 in the top 100.

Shula did what he was supposed to do, get Alabama through well deserved probation. Had a nice 2005 season, which was a really good coaching/roster management job. That Alabama fans complain about the guy is ridiculous. He did you guys a favor even taking the job given the probation and Mike Price situation

Todd Grantham replacing Peter Sirmon as MSU DC. Went from #110 in total defense in 2016 under Sirmon to #10 under Grantham in 2017.

Bama retains Shula lots of rival SEC fans & coaches are happy. Tuberville, Fulmer, Nutt, Miles, Urban etc.. last a lot longer.

I don’t think Alabama should have retained Shula, simply that he was a fine stop gap coach when Alabama put themselves in a bad situation.
