1. Mike Elko, DC, Texas A&M

quote:

When Brian Kelly hired Mike Elko away from Wake Forest last offseason to revamp his defense after a 4-8 season, it was hailed as a forward-thinking move. But after helping drive Notre Dame to a 10-3 turnaround, Elko is no longer a hipster pick as a defensive guru, he's gone mainstream. Some of college football's biggest names came knocking this offseason and it took nearly $2 million for Jimbo Fisher to lure Elko to College Station. But for an offensive coach in need of a strong defensive counterpart in the rugged SEC West, it was the most critical hire of the offseason. Elko proved to be a dynamic recruiter in his year at Notre Dame and his defenses are disciplined and disruptive. He gives Jimbo Fisher his best defensive coordinator since Jeremy Pruitt in Florida State's 2013 national title season.

4. The Chief, DC, Arkansas

6. Josh Gattis, WR, Craig Kuligowski, DL, Alabama

9. Matt Canada, OC, Maryland

Better hope Arkansas is beating their team by at least 2 TDS with 2 minutes left. Chavis will shut down the Manziels, Tebows and Mayfields of the world all day long, but for some reason, the pro style offense just gives him all kinds of trouble late in games.

This just doesn't make any sense at this point.

Chavis was at best a middle of the road coach at A&M with decently talented units. He's a solid DC with great talent, but Arkansas is going to suck with him running the show with the talent they have and will get.

Admittedly, I expected this to be a flame and see Ed O on the list.

Chavis...I suppose he made the defense less porous but 3rd and Chavis is a real thing. Sadly, it was still better than what we had prior.

ETA: HA! I see someone said Ed O!

If this happens I'd be fine given what we've had lately. We're likely to face more of the former in the SEC than the later anyways.

Lol, i don't see how you could put any other teams coaching hires up against the combo of Gattis, Enos, Kuligowski, Banks, Golding. Heck, Kuligowski might be the best hire all by himself, and the rest are homeruns. And yet bama is 6 on the list

At least we still get to face 3rd & Chavis every year. That game always helps our offensive stat averages.

this is impossible. Ed Orgeron PROMISED us he was hiring the best assistants in college football to overcome his gerber baby intellect. Steve has got to be mistaken with Mike Elko
