Seems about right. #1-10 all probably (reasonably) feel like the goal is the NCAAT. Arkansas and A&M do seem just a tad low, even with all their losses.

Mississippi State doesn't have any excuses this year. If this bunch doesn't make the NCAAT then that's a failure.

Mike has never had a losing season and his worst finish was 9th in the SEC, his first year. I think he finds someway to finish 8-10. Which is still not ok in year 8, even in an expected great league.

Yep and Drew is a solid coach. I think they are going to be very dangerous towards the end of the year.

i guess someone has to finish last, but A&M has more talent than the 4 teams directly above them

While I think Ole Miss and UGA made solid coaching hires, I think they are bottom 2 at the moment.

Totally agree. If Howland can’t get a roster that’s loaded with 4 and 5 stars to the NCAA tournament, it may be time for him to hang it up.

Yeah, UK might not win the league.

When is Shittu going to be ready? They are a clear bottom 4 team without him unless Darius Garland is Jalen Brunson.

Roberson is a pretty big loss off an already terrible team.

Why would State need excuses? Why would Howland need to hang it up?
He has been building the program and effectively speaking this is his third year. I don’t count the first year as we had six seniors (who were gone) and Q. Newman was basically a bust and even at Kansas , he was an average-good college player on a great team. He was a great HS player who has turned out to be a decent college player who will probably have a solid career in Europe as a pro.

So his second year was his first year in the sense of program building. He has steadily gotten better since then , last year, the team really gelled down the stretch and the NIT run will be a good jump off into this season.
This season will be another step up the block that I believe will end in us in the Big Dance.
His recruiting has been solid and he now has the pieces in place to make some noise in the SEC and beyond.

considering the talent at hand, its been a slower than expected rebuild IMO. this is a do or die year for howland.

You can't just not count the first year.

Nobody holds the first year against him, but you can't just not count it because the team was bad. Almost every new coach in the history of ever (rare exceptions like CJM) inherits a terrible team. That's why the new coach was hired.

lol, this is funny coming from a state fan now

Just last year all the state fans were assuring everyone Howland makes his big leap in year 3 at previous schools and would do the same at MSU. Last year was definitely his third year at MSU just like UCLA/Pitt previously and failed to make the tournament. At UCLA he was the national runner up in year 3 (from not making tournament in year 1). At Pitt he made the sweet 16 in year 3 (from not making the tourney in year 1).

If Howland still cant win and at least get in the tourney this year, he probably never will be much at State. Last year you guys had a joke of a OOC schedule which you went 11-2 against to build up the (empty) wins, then ended up just 9-9 in conference play and missing the tournament.
