Pretty obvious what O did to spin out of control the past two years.

As it was easy to see the losses that started to pile up on Chiz, im curious as to the details on why he fizzled out so fast as well.

The way I remember it was

he had some players get in trouble and then he assigned people to watch the players, and follow them around. Lost the team completely.

He was a totally inept HC. he went 8-5 his first year with Tuberville's players, 14-0 with Scam Newton, then 8-5 and 3-9 before being fired.

He reached the level of his incompetence. Dude couldn't head coach. We were so bad his last year.

He took coaches for recruiting not for x's and o's. Then at the end he tried changing offensive philosophy from a spread team to an I formation team much like alabama and lsu were running.

Chizik’s downfall was Cam going pro. He led an 8-4 type of team to 14-0.

It wasn't so much a downfall.
It was 4 years of really poor management, with the anomaly of a once-in-a-generation talent who was able to pull everyone around him together and make them better, in spite of the coaching.
If not for Cam and 2010, it would have been a Barfield type disaster.

Supposed to be a defensive guy. Our defenses sucked. He’s lucky he had Malzahn. Then Malzahn left. We had zero offense, zero defense and he lost the team and they quit on him.

Recruited well according to rankings but you go back and look at the classes and see they weren’t good. Guys getting kicked off the team/busts/etc

He lost control of the team and recruited felons

eta: Players also quit with the 2012 aTm game being the first time in my life i have ever witnessed an Auburn team quit. It was so pathetically sad that Chizik was a dead man walking after that

Gus left after 2011 and Chiz hired Scott Loeffler to implement a pro-style offense. To be polite, it didn't work.

He started off 0-2. Barely beat LA-Monroe in OT, then lost the next 5. He let Manziel score 63 at JHS, which was the most points any team ever put up in JHS. I think this game is what sealed his firing. Jay Jacobs said he made the decision mid-season, even though he wouldn't announce it until after season was over.

Then he lost to Vandy, which I think really, really sealed the deal if there was any doubt left.

Then he lost to UGA 38-0. Two weeks later lost to Bama 49-0. By the UGA game it was clear the team had quit. Everyone was out there just loafing around. Same in Bama game.

But it all came down to Loeffler sucking and our new pro-style offense looking like hot garbage. Our poor QB was terrible (Frazier) and looked like he'd never been coached in his life.

EDIT: Oh yeah, we had several players arrested for a home invasion. And a separate incident where 2 (I think?) players were shot at a pool party. The shooting wasn't their fault (they were bystanders) but it had to frick with the team's head.

What was his record at ISU? I thought that was a bad hired. Same thing with Orgeron. What did Orgeron do to deserved the HC job? Same thing for Chizik. Both didn't have a great record to get the Auburn and the LSU job. Both should never have gotten the job in the first place. That is why everyone is on a lookout for the next HC but who is the one will have a great record and do it repeatedly. That is why ISU HC isn't a good candidate for the LSU or any of the top football program. Mizzou got lucky to get Drinkwitz. He didn't get off to a great start. He hadoes have a good reason and that is lack of good to great talents in every position. Right now he is maximizing the recruiting talents this coming class. He will need a couple of more of the same or even better to get them all on the field at the same time to have a chance to compete with the top program. No way Arkansas, South Carolina, Mizzou, and Vandy and some others should get to beat top program regularly. That is why the need of better talents, good backups, and depth.

All of these comments are almost an identical picture of what happened with LSU and Orgeron.

Lack of discipline from not just Chiz but any of his assistants. Chiz didn’t hold players or assistant coaches accountable. They coddled players and treated them like they were their homeboys which led to players running roughshod.

Exactly right. I think he also put out a "look what I did" book that pissed Trooper and Looper and the rest of his remaining coaches off.

It was astonishing to watch how bad we were.

In the Georgia game, I watched Mark Richt intentionally try not to score, but we literally jogged through plays, and Georgia scored again. After that it looked like he had the QB check to runs to the side with more AU defenders. It was embarrassing. Somehow Richt held it down to like 38-0, but it could have been 100-0, and the Alabama game could have been as well.

Prosch, Mason, and Wallace did not quit, but the rest of the offense went through the motions.

On defense, it looked like every player just sort of lumbered through the game.

Embarrassing.

He was Mr. 5-19 at Iowa Stare and should never have been hired. We got Cam and played with a chip on our shoulders. Too much credit also went to Gus, that hurt Chiz’s ego and he changes the offense. To make matters worse we hired Gus who rallied the team and we went from 3-9 to thr BCS NC in 2013. Gus only has one more decent year. (2017)

Gene was a good DC and recruiter. Wish Saban would bring him into the rehab center for a while.

Downfall, Ted Roof. That's my answer.
