I think that defense will play a much bigger factor this year on Nov 7th. How are you Bama fans feeling about your D this year compared to last?

It's Burrow proof this year.
Guaranteed.
Guaranteed.

3 names who change everything for Bama’s defense this season.
Moses, Ray, Barmore

LSU's only hope is for half of Alabama's team to be in the hospital like they were last season.

Moses being back is big for them for sure. I can’t wait to see our new LB Jabril Cox...talk about a plug in play player...will be the QB of our D.

Much better. The fact that Markail Benton touched the field against LSU last season says a lot.

Alabama has two national titles since the last time LSU scored against Alabama in Baton Rouge.
Last I checked, this years game is in...the place where LSU's offense dies against Alabama.

Biggest question marks are the new safeties at this point. Staying healthy is the biggest factor though. If they can make it without major injuries, they’ll have plenty of depth for the front 7-8.

Let's hope Tua isn't at 100% again this year. That was key for our win

DL will be vastly improved due to additional bodies, guys returning from injury and experience. Key names here are Ray, Dale and Barmore (might be the best DL in the SEC in 2020)
LB will be uneven. ILB will be massively improved due to the return of Dylan Moses and the freshman having experience. OLB is a huge unknown with Allen being experienced but injury prone and Mwikuta or a TF being likely to start on the other side. They have to show they can pressure the QB consistently to be an elite unit.
Secondary should be pretty good. Surtain is a beast at DB, but the other slot is up in the air with a JUCO kid being an option. Safety should be fine, but not anything special compared to past elite units with Jobe, Wright and a few other experienced guys fighting for spots.
Bottom line the D will be much more of what you expect from a Saban unit at Bama compared to last year which was the worst unit since 2007 due to injuries and attrition. Its not 2015 historically elite, but its a top 5 D most likely.

An idea of the depth chart:
DE- Ray (5*), Young (4*)
DT- Dale (4*), Mathis (4*), Sopsher (4*), Smith (5*)
DE- Barmore (4*), Eboigbe (4*)
All sans Smith the freshman and Sopsher have played over 100 snaps. All those guys are near the same size, so some of the positions are interchangeable
OLB- Allen (4*), Sanders (5*)
MLB- Moses (5*), Kaho (5*)
MLB- Harris (4*), Lee (4*)
OLB- Mwikuta (4*), Anderson (5*)
CB- Surtain (5*), Armour- Davis (4*)
CB- Jobe (4*), Williams (4*)
FS- Battle (4*), Branch (4*)
SS- Wright (4*), Hellams (4*)
Of the projected starters, Mwikuta is the only one without extensive playing time. The front 7 will likely be our best since 2016. The only question mark right now is at the third corner spot, where it's likely that a new face will be in the lineup, be it Armour Davis or the Juco transfer Ronald Williams. In all likelihood Surtain plays the slot corner when we've got 3 on the field, like Fitzpatrick did.
It's hard to compare the defense last season to this season unless the injury bug bites again. There were times last year when we had 7 true freshmen on the field on defense. Guys that were 3rd or 4th on the depth chart in September were playing extensively in November- they did as well as anyone could've expected them to. Some of those kids were in line to redshirt
ETA: bolded are players with 0-50 snaps under their belt

Question to Alabama fans about their defense and the first 3 responses are LSU fans
- DL should be better and deeper; will need an outside pass rusher to step up
- LB should be better and deeper (Moses/Harris should be a pretty good duo in the middle)
- Secondary will come down to the new safeties. Battle is going to be a good player but he is young.
The other wild card is how much the kids that played last year improve and how much their knowledge and instincts improve. And, finally, Pete Golding will be under an intense microscope. As of today our defense is much deeper and more experienced than the 2019 group was Week 1 against Duke, and definitely week 6 or so once Ray went down.
