I still think the city of Birmingham and UAB would be smarter to partner/invest in a basketball arena, over a football stadium. BJCC is a dump. Never been to Bartow arena, but I'm sure it could be better.

Bartow is a great college basketball venue. UAB wouldn't play anywhere else.

If you have a large nice arena, you will recruit well and have good attendance. That alone will keep you in a good competitive conference.

Does Memphis go to the national championship/hire Calipari without the FedEx Forum? Nope....

you could get some of that same momentum by investing in basketball.

Why not just build a football stadium and be good at both?

No it won't, there's no where to go.

not a fair comparison. LSU is the only school in a talent laden state.

Alabama has two programs that are considered elite(well done Auburn). In a state of about 5 million, that is pretty impressive.

Right. I said it was a stretch.

It's not outside the realm of possibility that this is strictly a business decision, but the evidence suggests that there is some protectionism of the Alabama brand going on.

Again, what is most outrageous is that it was never allowed to come to a vote.

I do not think anyone herw would think The Crimson White is anti-Alabama:

UAB deserves independence from BOT

How can anybody think killing UAB football program would help UAB basketball program? they would be kicked out of their conference and be lucky to get into the sunbelt, could even drop to the atlantic sun conference. Build UAB a new football stadium and they might have a chance to join Memphis in the AAC. The bigger picture is its really about urban development, new stadium in the city brings more development. Heck, just look at Atlanta with new stadiums for the falcons and braves with Ga state maybe taking over the old braves stadium. Little bear is a tyrant is and wants a monopoly.

Its strictly business. Look at the landscape. Non Power 5 programs already lose money and putting a $60 mil debt on top of that makes absolutely no sense. The University of Alabama system already is the largest contributor to UAB athletics.

Terrible financial decision?

Read the multiple articles linked. The stadium would get 500k annually for naming rights and turn a 5 mil profit in year one. Easily enough to service the bonds and then some.

Any Gump trying to argue it would not be in the best interests of the entire UA system financially for them to have their ownsmall stadium is either ignorant or a liar. Or both most likely.

The Alabama BOT isn't gonna give up control of UAB

I'm guessing it's a business decision, but, seriously, it seems like there's some protectionism going on hyah.

I bet none of them are reading the dozen or so linked articles either . Even from their own student paper. Just deny and deflect.

But its OK to spend $35 million on new baseball stadium for Roll Tide, not to mention new frat houses, etc , etc, etc. The board has tyrant running it and wants to suppress UAB and UAH to line to pocket of pro UAT faithful. Total SCAM and only a stupid corrupt EVIL GUMP would buy into it. Frick off.

Again, how about it just gets a vote? I do not think all the BOT is out to get UAB, but it is clear some members are.

You are a Bama fan, I get it. But to defend the way this has been handled is beneath you. If it turns out the rumor is true and the UA BOT power members are quietly trying to kill the program, it shows bad stewardship from the BOT.

Some people question the power of Bryant Jr. Take a look at the Most Powerful Boosters article from ESPN:

Most powerful boosters

Baseball stadium was in sore need to be updated. Dumb assertion.

Frick it, i am going all in on yall's reason why Bama is trying to dump UAB football.

- You ridicule us for building a new baseball stadium? Well we probably would have re-built the stadium long ago if we didn't have to support a crap UAB football program that no one supports outside of the player's families.
- We want to brand UAB back to The University of Alabama. Get rid of the green and gold. Bring the schools together, in every way. This will allow us to apply for AAU status and get more research dollars. Once we get done with UAB, we are going for UAH. be the premier educator in the south. Good for the state of Alabama. suck it.

This will allow Auburn to capitalize on the new shortage of college football in the state of Alabama by fielding a team at AU-Montgomery. Yes they may run a financial deficit so be prepared to support it at first but if you build a $60 million stadium you may begin to run a profit.

Hopefully you will not need to support it for upwards of 20 years like UofA has done for UAB.

Auburn fans are UAB's biggest fans because they believe it hurts the finances and competitiveness of The University of Alabama. Shame on us for trying to do something that benefits the schools educational priorities.
