Looking at these men's basketball programs now, who made the best hire.

In order for me it is UT, MSU, and Bama a very distant third.

I'm not really sure what Howland has accomplished to put him that far in front of Johnson

Howland has at least had success in college

Well he had the youngest team in America a year ago, he's made improvements this year but kinda getting punished by the OOC SOS. Hopefully we learn from it and better be dancing next year. No seniors on this team btw.

He went to a few Final Fours at UCLA before being fired for underachieving?

I'm not arguing he's a worse coach, but for some reason people are acting like he's still playing with Rick Rays roster.

Nothing yet but Mississippi State looks better for next year

Should be, but at some point they have to win some games against teams that aren't bottom half of the SEC or Mississippi Valley State. They had the easiest conference schedule in the league this year and the well known joke of a OOC schedule.

Maybe it'll be next year. It better, considering that'll be year 4.

They still look better now than they ever did under Ray. I don’t think you can say the same thing about Avery compared to Grant

3 Years of Ben Howland: 51-42(22-31)
3 Years Before Ben Howland: 37-60 (13-41)

3 Years of Avery Johnson: 54-43 (26-27)
3 Years Before Avery Johnson: 54-46 (27-27)

Any idea now?

This is also true. No comparison between what Grant left behind and what Ray left behind (and spare me the arguments to the contrary -- we've been through this).

So Alabama's bottom half?

We've defeated Texas A&M, Missouri, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Arkansas. And idk who else. But we aren't just beating "bottom teams"

Rick Ray was one of the worst coaches in the SEC in the last 20 years. I'm not sure that really says a lot.

Don't disagree with any of this but they have everyone back plus a solid recruiting class. Should be preseason Top 25. Now it's up to Howland to schedule like it.

I mean, right on the line, yea.

Howland will probably do good things, it's just strange to see him praised for basically making 1 NIT in 3 seasons.

I'd take him over Avery (wanted him back then too), but they've basically done the same thinfs when you factor in Howland started in a worse place and Avery won more his first 2 years.

I'll be honest I didn't think the Barnes thing was going to work at all.
