All I can say is Penn State was crushed when he left. He took a program that was a radioactive dumpster fire and developed a decent team in the two years there.
I doubt he is as good as Sark with in game adjustments --- but Alabama can probably afford to lose some productivity and still be the clear favorite.

The greatest college football coach in this century is an ex NFL head coach. How's that working out for BAMA?
Saban is clearly more of the exception than the rule.
He also wasn't fired from his NFL job like many of the guys I was referring to.

Pete Carroll arguably one of the top 5 cfb coaches in the 21st century so far and he was a flop NFL HC when he took the SoCal job.

It's possible you get a Pete Carroll for every 5 of the other guys.

Really? That’s certainly intriguing.
I honestly can’t remember much from his era there, other than the ancillary goings-on:

See this where you lost everyone see... Ever heard of Abe Lincoln? Forget it, of course you haven't... Being a brilliant philanthropist he once stated, and I quote, "Better to stay quiet and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt."
Might wanna write that down...

I'm convinced at this point Saban could hire the popsicle man and have him on the Frank Broyles award watch in 2-3 years.
I think he could take a lot of good high school coaches and turn them into competent DC’s at the college level relatively quickly if he wanted to.
Look, the scheme has to be simple enough that special players fresh out of high school (not all of whom are Rhodes Scholars) can step right in and play immediately - and be able to lead (as in calling signals and shite) within three years max.
It can’t be rocket surgery.

So you do a lot of talking but have no data that NFL coaches do anything but succeed in Tuscaloosa.

He chose Daunte Culpepper over Drew Brees goes to show you how good of an NFL coach he was.
As good as Drew Brees was, he only got Sean Payton and the Saints to one Super Bowl. He put up stats and that's about it. Stats that will have all been shattered by Tom Brady this time next year.

Never said anything about Tuscaloosa, buddy

That wasn't Brees' fault

Yeah only thing separating Daunte Culpepper and Drew Brees is the one Super Bowl he won.

I would prefer stability. That hasn’t been the norm for Bama, but whether it’s new coaches or QB’s, it always works out. RTR

Yeah he sucked as an NFL coach.
Go look at the Dolphins record for the two years prior to Saban's arrival and the two years after his departure, then come back and tell us how Saban sucked in the NFL.

What does it matter? I always thought the “oh, Saban sucked as a NFL coach” approach was stupid. Okay? Well he’s one of the three best college coaches ever and will retire at Alabama. Good talk.

I'm not excited about him, but I'm not worried either. O'Brian never had a problem with playcalling, it was more his management of the Texans. I wasn't thrilled about Sark after how he did with the falcons and the 2016 CFPCG but he proved me wrong. With Henry too-too though our defense will be elite. Malachi Moore and Jobe looked borderline elite after the Ole Miss Game.
