Peyton Barber's surprising year took another unexpected turn Monday.

The running back surprisingly declared for the NFL Draft to barely beat the league's deadline.

Barber issued this statement to AL.com:

"I have decided to forego my eligibility at Auburn and enter the 2016 NFL Draft. This was a very tough decision for many reasons but after my family and I prayed about it, I know I am ready for the next step and that this is the best decision for me. Auburn is a special place and having the opportunity to play football at Auburn has been a dream come true. I am close to graduating, so I will continue to work towards my degree even as I pursue my dream to play in the NFL. I would like to thank all of my coaches and all of the support staff at Auburn, especially Coach (Gus) Malzahn, Coach (Rhett) Lashlee and Coach (Tim) Horton. Thank you to all of my teammates as well. Lastly, thank you to the best fans in the world! I will always be an Auburn Tiger. War Eagle!"

Auburn already sucks. Is this really going to make a difference?

Great news for once. There's too many players returning to teams that should be going pro.

His best choice, IMO. He isn't the best running back on roster and his draft stock is about as high as it'll be. Good luck in the NFL, Peyton!

With Robinson and Roc coming back, I think he knew he wouldn't have the numbers next year to get any attention. A least he is coming off a 1000 yard season. Good kid, hope he makes it.

No not at all. He wasn't the best rb on the team. He didn't have the greatest vision as a runner. He over ran his blockers on many occasions instead of allowing a cutback lane to open up. Jovon will be number 1 next year regardless.

Supposedly, but Peyton Barber going pro should've cemented it if he was still considering the transfer. Jovon Robinson will lead the backfield next year, with Roc Thomas and Kerryon Johnson fighting for the starting gig in 2017.

He wasn't going to get half the carries next year that he got this year anyway. His stock may not be high, but it'll never be higher than it is now.
