Automatic contract extensions in the SEC?

Was reading the "opposing view" article about the upcoming UGA/UK matchup and noticed this interesting line regarding Mark Stoops recent contract extension:
First of all, let me preface this by saying I think what Stoops is doing at Kentucky is pretty impressive honestly. They look better. They're recruiting better than they have in years (if not ever). His salary is a very reasonable 3.75 mill annually right now, which will grow to at least 5M by 2022 assuming he sticks around.
The auto extension thing though... is that common elsewhere? I feel like the only place I'd heard about it was Ga Tech with Paul Johnson. Plus one year contract extension for a 7 win season seems maybe a little excessive. Also... that 250k per win over 6 is pretty sweet as well. If he were able to win 10 games that's a 1 mill bonus... I imagine Stoops would love to have the 4th quarter of the UF and Ole Miss games back at this point for more than just team reasons... half a mill and a good shot at the extra bonus year on contract.
Generally speaking, for UK fans, do you like the contract terms? I'm assuming that you guys like Stoops as "the guy" for now... but I could be mistaken. It does seem like maybe a bit much contractually but at the same time, probably helps to secure a coach from looking for greener pastures as well.
Either way, here's to a healthy game this weekend.

Kentucky isn’t close to passing East programs like Florida and Tennessee, but things are much more stable in Lexington than they are in Knoxville or Gainesville. Stoops’ contract will be extended by one year for every season in which he leads Kentucky to seven wins. Stoops earned that seventh win last Saturday, and his contract was extended to 2022 — a season in which he’ll be due $5 million. If Kentucky wins 10 games in a season, Stoops gets a two-year extension. And on top of those provisions, he nets a $250,000 bonus for every UK win starting with its seventh. So yeah, it’s pretty good to be Mark Stoops right now given that contract. Kentucky is committed to him and back-to-back seasons with four SEC wins is impressive given where Joker Phillips left the program.

I haven't decided if I like it or not honestly. When he fricks the games against ole miss, Florida, and looks like he's in the wrong profession against Miss st I want him gone. He can't blow any teams out(not named vandy). He takes his foot off the gas when we get up two possessions. He really irritates the shite out of me but we're 7-3 and haven't been in my lifetime so what the hell do ya do? I don't like the extension after 7 wins but I'm fine with the bonuses.

I have never been a Stoops guy but he seems to have UK trending upwards. I see nothing wrong with the contract clauses he has. More coaches should have them

Good for Stoops. They really should have beaten Florida, then ten wins would have been possible.

Sumlin would be the A&M coach until he retired with that clause. His 8 win per year is like clockwork.

I like Stoops. He's revived the program after joker shot it in the face and left it for dead.
As far as paying him that much, if he continues to win it's fine. The bonus for 7 wins and up isn't bad since as Kentucky, it is hard to get a bowl game, particularly a decent one.
Plus, paying him that much means they're spending my tuition on something besides the new student center
And here's hoping we have an injury free game Saturday
