Vanderbilt and Tennessee had held that indignity. Vandy lost the 1974 Mideast Regional Third place game to Notre Dame, 118-88. Tennessee lost in 1999 in the Second Round to SW Missouri State, 82-52.

Now, the worst loss ever in the NCAA tournament by a team that is currently a member of the SEC was by Arkansas. The Razorbacks lost the 1958 Midwest Regional Third place game to Cincinnati, 97-62.

LSU's 21-0 loss in the National Championship game was the worst beat down by a SEC team in recent memory. At least everyone knew the barn was going to lose.

Congrats on your SEC title and NCAAt appearance. I can’t wait to see yall’s banner hanging in the rafters when Auburn comes to Baton Rouge to whip L3U again next year.

So the best season in Auburn history ended with the worst NCAA tourney loss in SEC history?

Yep, it appears that the SEC was not nearly as strong in basketball this season as some fans suggested. Most understand we were not top heavy this season but those same views suggested that we might be the best overall conference. That simply is not the case. Hopefully A&M and Kentucky continue to represent us well but when supposed the best team in the conference, Auburn, gets completely blown out by 5th seeded Clemson, it does not bode well for the conference as a whole.

I have no clue how that narrative ever got started. It's been apparently for some time the league is not very good.

While it's probably true the conference wasn't as tough as we claimed, it's just not fair to the conference to act like Auburn (and therefore all the teams Auburn hammered during the year) got exposed by Clemson.

Auburn fell off a cliff. It's a much more accurate portrayal to treat AU before the injury to McClemore and AU after the injury as two entirely different squads.

More parity in the league as a whole this year...well parity among everyone not named Kentucky
