Alabama beat Auburn 31-7 in 2001.
Then the streak started.
Also this game was miserable. 35 degrees and sleeting. It also didn't help that it was an awful game.

Did 52-21 Bama start a streak?

That game was just the miserable cap to a miserable season for the Tide lol. Preseason #3 ranking that led to a 3-8 season. Lost to LSU in Baton Rouge for the first time in three decades. Went 0-for in out of conference games. Became the first power conference team to lose to UCF. Went 3-5 in conference and finished last in the division. Multiple reports throughout the season of Dubose losing the locker room and constant chemistry/discipline issues. Players were partying on the strip the night before games. There was actually some talent on the team and they played competitive games against everybody but Southern Miss of all things. Then that miserable Iron Bowl. Freezing cold, sleeting, wet, and overall terrible football from both teams. Not a touchdown from either team, and of course we lost despite a somewhat inspired effort by the defense.

Was just watching this with my son. He was born in 2007. He was very surprised to hear about a 3-8 season by Bama. Child doesn’t know what a losing season looks like. Now we’re on youtube watching old games.
Gotta make sure he appreciates what we have now.

I think the 31-7 game; bama was a big underdog.

Can we go back to Alabama being 3-8 in a season?

Start enforcing recruiting violations.

This game looked absolutely miserable.

A close Iron Bowl that fans were actually leaving at halftime...yes it was miserable.

The most miserable football game I've ever been to. Just barely warm enough not to snow and rained all day so there was water everywhere and it was 35 degrees.
Such a bad, dysfunctional team Alabama put on the field that year too. DuBose had completely lost control.

Yeah had it be a 55 and sunny day Auburn would’ve killed us. Instead it was 9-0.

If I remember correctly we never even really threatened to score, either.
The upside was the miserable weather convinced my dad to buy me a bad arse giant Alabama Nike coat at the supe store.

What an awful fricking season. We started out #3 with a lot of people predicting us to win the National Title. We returned almost everyone off of the 99 SEC Championship team except Alexander and Samuels. I remember the first game against UCLA Freddie Milons ran the 1st punt back for a TD and I looked at my dad and said “ Oh Yeah we winning the title this year” and it was all downhill from there.
But that game was cold as frick. I tailgated and it was icing all day. Miserable

We didn’t even have 100 yards of offense I don’t think

My question has always been how the hell did auburn only win 9-0. That 2000 team was maybe the 3rd worst Bama ever put on the field. Auburn won the west.
That next season we sucked again but went down to auburn and won 31-7 in a total, complete shocker. Nobody, I mean nobody thought Bama would stay within 3 tds. It's bad when the players even say they were surprised they won.

Ben Leard was pretty fricking bad in that game. He threw a couple of interceptions deep in our territory and I think Rudi Johnson lost a fumble inside our 20. Could be wrong though, it’s been almost 20 years

I just remember that Auburn team played close games all year and then in the 4th quarter Rudi would wear teams down and start busting runs. That guy was a damn bulldozer.
