No doubt a great individual

A true man’s man.

Coach Jordan loved Auburn, and Auburn loved him. He never did anything to disgrace or dishonor himself, his family, or his university.

He believed in “work, hard work.”
He was “just, kind, and humble.”

The stadium is named after him because of his character.

Because he coached against him more years than any other SEC coach. “

Ok who won more games than he did as a team in those years he coached against Bryant. Answer Tenn 6 nobody else came close to five wins.

I also think the "impact" of that game has been slightly exaggerated through the years.

Integration was beginning to happen anyway and I don't think it "pushed" it any faster.

100% this. There has been a certain mythical quality attached to that game that wasn't there at the time. Alabama and many other SEC schools were already beginning to recruit black athletes. Alabama already had one or two on the team who were freshmen. At that particular point in time freshmen couldn't dress with the team and so they were sitting in the stands that night.

Why is Chizik never given any credit? Do Auburn fans think the 2010 NC was luck? Was it due to Malzahn’s schemes or Ted Roof’s defense (both of whom Chizik hired)? Or having an extraordinary athlete in Cam Newton?

Beat good Alabama teams

Relative at best. Pat Dye had some of the most talented teams in their history and BAMA was going through their new identity crisis in the 80s. Dye struggled to win the big one and that's tough when you look for BEST. Shug Jordan had to contend with coach Bryant and that machine for 2 decades and still had the barn on the winning side of the ledger a lot of years.

Too close to call and mostly I just don't care.

No, it wasn't luck. Tuberville left some very solid players. And Chizik added a few key pieces.

Was it due to Malzahn’s schemes

It was his schemes, but to a greater extent, the veteran OL, a fantastic freshman RB and very obviously Cam Newton.

Ted Roof’s defense

Hell no.

Or having an extraordinary athlete in Cam Newton?

Obviously a huge part. But Cam wouldn't have been the same with the OL that was left in 2011.

I do give him credit for coolly navigating that team through the shitshow surrounding Cam at the end of the season. He did a great job of keeping that team focused through all of that.

He brought an Auburn program out of the depths of despair. He coached at Auburn for 25 years and won 2 of every 3 games. This was at a time when Auburn was playing UGA, Ga. Tech, Tenn, UF, and bama yearly.

Shug started coaching in 1951. Look at the previous years...........

so you saw Auburn come back from a 17 point halftime deficit...........at bama?

ETA luck is winning a NC when you don't even win your own Division or Conf. championship.
