Auburn fan entitlement is what makes the potential Gus firing so interesting

What is happening with Gus frankly isn't an interesting or unique situation:
-Last year when LSU lost to Troy they were going over buyouts the next day
-When Sumlin had 2 five star QBs leave it seemed over for him.
-When Bret lost to Mizzou and Virginia Tech in 2016 it was obvious he was done right then.
In each one of these cases each one of these coaches got an extra season (two for Sumlin) after they were considered done for. This is how it always goes for most programs. Sometimes coaches turn it around during the hot seat year (Coach O right now) and sometimes they don't (Sumlin and Bert) but most fans of most programs know when they are faced with a year like that and what to expect.
But Auburn fans aren't most fans, they are so used to their AD having the patience of a five year old with coaches that the concept of having a season where an embattled coach has to prove themselves against the odds isn't even something they are willing to consider.
It is very clear at the heart of all of this drama is this Auburn fan entitlement that no other fanbase shares. It is obvious they think that THEY should never have mail-it-in years, and every single season they MUST be in the position to compete for a title or be able to fool themselves that they are. Every other fanbase knows that is a delusion, but they see it as the only possible reality.
And without Arky's offer they could have just fired Gus this season with little penalty like they did Chiz or Tubbs, with no sense of loyalty or patience. Without Arky their entitlement could have continued into the future.
But the Arky offer did happen and it will kill Auburn fan entitlement one way or the other. Either Gus gets his "prove it" year next year, or the Auburn AD will bankrupt the program and sign onto years with a sub-par cheap staff just to keep the facade of the fan entitlement going. Either way will lead to results, either next year or down the line, that will bring the Auburn fan entitlement crashing down on their heads.
And that is what makes this all so interesting.
tl:dr - Auburn fans think they can avoid what other fans accept (obvious down years) because they got lucky before but now the luck ran out.

A&M and Arkansas are good comparisons for one another, but they don't make sense in a discussion about what LSU and Auburn do when it comes to hiring or firing coaches.

Fine, just keep it LSU then.
Why did they keep Coach O after he lost to Troy last year? Because of the buyout.
Why did they keep Les Miles into 2016? Because of the buyout.
Why will Gus be the coach of Auburn football next year? Because of the buyout.
Welcome to the fate of every other program not named Auburn. It was a good run of luck for yall but that is done now.

There’s a reason they’ve never rattled off consecutive 10 win seasons at the cow college.

If YawYaw went 5-7 last season, he would no longer be the coach at LSU-Baton Rouge
If Gustavo went 9-3 or even 8-4, he would still be coaching at Auburn next season

Beating alabama a few times is what got him that absurd contract. Some of them are still enamored by the kick 6 like it took coaching skill to say “hey try to return that if he misses”.

Uh, so what is the point of this thread, then?

Nice melt. Auburn has had just 3 head coaches since 1999.
Texas A&M has had 7 in the same time frame, 8 if you count Jeff Banks as interim. But you wanna talk about patience with coaches. Laughable.

depending on how he finishes the season, he probably won't be. You are a bad poster

His premise is that we're entitled because we want to fire Gus during a down year, and uses LSU to prove this, because apparently LSU was reasonable and patient when O lost to Troy?
Makes no sense
Makes no sense

As poor as L8U is you would have stopped by every Title Loan store in West Monroe to scrape up the buy out funds.
Sorry you are POOR...

Auburn is going to fire a coach that just signed a 7 year 49 million dollar contract?
Totally believe you.

laughable is your dumbass counting 3 interim coaches that each coached a bowl game.

I find it somewhat hard to believe as well, but the credibility of rumors is increasing.
If OP's argument is that Auburn is entitled because it will actually go through with such a stunt (buyout), then it makes some sense. Since his position is we won't, this thread is an abortion in logic and shite talking.

75% of the money is guaranteed isn't it? I highly doubt Auburn is going to be willing to pay Gus to go away after this season, no matter what.
Back to back losing seasons and something may change.

He's also choosing to purposely leave out the fact that a sizable portion of our fanbase wanted Gus fired last year and even 2016.

watching aubarn frick up the Gus firing and then hire some no name will be amazing to watch unfold. Thank you aubarn

It's 31+ million with roughly 16 due immediately. The thought is that there is private money sufficient to meet the immediate (30 day) deadline. The remaining portion is payable in manageable 4mx4yr payments.
Again, I still think it's a long shot and was very adamant it wouldn't happen a couple days ago. Increasingly, Auburn people of all persuasions suddenly aren't as confident Gus will make it through the year.
Could be just rumors, and in some ways I still think that's likely. But we'll learn soon enough.
