The second to last game of the 2021-22 college football season will take place tonight in Houston when Kansas State and LSU meet in the TaxAct Texas Bowl.

TaxAct Texas Bowl: Kansas State (7-5) vs. LSU (6-6)
Kickoff: Tuesday, Jan. 4 at 9 p.m. ET
Where: NRG Stadium (Houston)
TV: ESPN
Spread: Kansas State -4.5

Final Analysis

Despite having won the national championship just two years ago, hardly any players and coaches remain from that squad. The Tigers will have about 40 scholarship players available for the Texas Bowl and the coaching staff is a makeshift crew of shorts as well.

It's certainly worth asking, does LSU even care about this game? The only notable motivation is that that the Tigers need a win to avoid their first losing season since 1999 (3-8), which was Gerry DiNardo's last before giving way to Nick Saban.

Meanwhile, Kansas State is trying to avoid a three-game losing streak to finish this campaign and win its first bowl game since the Cactus Bowl in 2017.

It's hard to see LSU's mishmash roster gel under these circumstances with everyone completely focused on Brian Kelly taking over the program. In fact, it will be interesting to see how many Tiger fans simply show up for this game in NRG Stadium.

Prediction: Kansas State 23, LSU 6

I can’t argue the prediction at all. Quite honestly, no result would surprise me tonight, even a resounding LSU win wouldn’t. Odd feeling on the morning of a bowl game.

No way LSU scores in this game. We're talking walk-on QBs and not the kind you see in dramatic sports movies. Rudy doesn't get the sack in real life.

KSU is always a gritty game, and they have another good head coach post-Snyder (Chris Klieman, who came from North Dakota State and won 4 championships in 5 years).

But talent discrepancy has always plagued them. Outside of Deuce Vaughn and a couple other guys, they're always severely less talented than the Power 5 teams they play. That was evident when they played Texas this year.

I'm expecting LSU to lean on them with their run game and beat them 20-17 in an upset

Faulk will get some snaps but not the majority. Kirklin , a two way HS star and starting WR, will get the majority of snaps. Passed for 7500 yds in HS and can run well. Lots of RPO and QB power.

You would think it's impossible for Kansas State to lose this game, but then I also thought it was impossible for Kansas State to create a mascot as retarded as Eco-cat.

LSU in a Benny Hill classic 14-6.

Wouldn't be shocked if we lost but would be pleasantly surprised if we won.

Oh man, for some reason I didn't realize he was the coach from NDSU.

You're right, those guys dominated the FCS.

Will be surprised if we keep it that close. We are a train wreck right now. But I still want us to play this game. Time to separate those who are contenders and pretenders. We will come out of this a better organization.

O will take a break from Brandy to watch this game.
