At what point does cfb history become meaningless

Every offseason this bored is full of post about record and h2h stats about the SEC and CFB in general. I think most people would agree that a good solid HS football team today would demolish any CFB team from the 10s to 40s and most good HS teams would compete against the 50s to 70s team. I just dont see how CFB from the 10s to 70s is relevant in any way.

Anything before 1938 is completely meaningless.

One of the dumber posts I’ve ever seen. You’re probably one of those “tear down statues and change the names of schools” people.

Here we go. Football has always been relevant. Yes, even before you were born. So, are you gonna agree that in 2050 that 2000 football is irrelevant?
I was at the 1979 Sugar Bowl game when Penn State and Alabama met and I can assure you beyond any reasonable doubt, no high school team ever would have beaten either one of those teams. Just throwing another one out, 1971 Nebraska-Oklahoma, any high school team anywhere anytime would have been in physical danger playing either of those teams.

Comparing across generations is beyond stupid.
If athletes from the 40’s knew the cigarettes were bad, had access to elite training and dieting, had access to top notch trainers and coaches, then it would be different.

And Miami in 91? They would have killed some kids.

Read the whole thing. You nailed it.
In all honesty, sports, like life, is a here and now affair. We latch onto the past to endure the present in most cases. Every team, season, game, snap have a life of their own, so why torture ourselves over what might have been or get lost in the glory days gone by? Live in the moment and enjoy while rejoicing over the facts that AU sux, UTk is a shadow of its glory days, and Saban has a mission in life for 2022 that I very much look forward to seeing play out.

Notice how many Bama fans are mad. You just negated 47 of their “claimed” championships.

If you wanted to say, could nil make winning or records or championships less important to recruits, I’d say maybe, but we shall see if a trend develops

Those are some of the worst kind of people.

And, aggies only one. Guess we'll all just have to manage with successes or failures defined in this millennium... admittedly, Bama got off to a rough start.

In terms of recruiting cfb history during the lifespan that the typical high school football player has watched football (say from age 6+) is the most relevant. Every year further out of the awareness of high school recruits is less meaningful.
