Dennis Dobbs: CBS Sports

quote:

Though there was a belief that Texas and Oklahoma may have been attempting to exit the Big 12 one year early in 2024, sources told Dodd that Fox would likely have demanded a return to make its future programming whole, including a top-tier selection of games years into the future given the marquee programs would have left its airwaves early. That's beyond what would have been a potentially massive early exit fee the programs would have needed to pay the Big 12 directly.

So, looks like we will play out the current scheduling format through 2024, then go to the 3/6 schedule in 2025.

Haven’t seen much in this lately, but my understanding is that CA government is going to block UCLA from joining the B1G

I’m hoping something happens to stop TX and OK actually jumping to the SEC - we don’t need them

Would be great if this deal never materialized.

There's probably a better chance of the California Board of Regents (which governs both UC Berkeley and UCLA) sinking UCLA's move to the Big Ten, than there is of the OU/Texas addition being torpedoed. Still, I agree. It was a panic move by Sankey. If he brushes off OU and Texas when they pitched the deal, Big Ten would have probably told them no as well. Sankey was afraid of OU and Texas going to the Big Ten so he panicked and orchestrated the addition, which won't do anything to increase revenue for current members until the current contract ends in 2034. If Sankey holds his water, college football might have remained fairly stable for another decade.

OU was never gonna go B1G. They don't have the academics.

We should build a wall and make them pay for it.

Wrong.

Sankey was afraid of Texas going to the Big 10. A joke academic school like Oklahoma will never get in that conference.

It's really hard to take just one school. Why do you think Missouri is in the SEC?

Hey, B12 made a schedule, who'd have thought? The when will come down to TV deal negotiations, not what the B12 decides to put on their calendar.

Because Slive wanted A&M in order to lure Texas and OU.

Which is why calling this a panic move is an awful take. You think SEC willingly takes Missouri for nothing? A&M was the bait to catch the big fish to the west.

They are an AAU school - their academics are a perfect match for the BG and they would be taken in a heartbeat

OU is not AAU. But I’m not 100% convinced Big 10 turns them down.
