Obviously you have never been there or else you were too intoxicated on Tennessee shine to know it. Athens is incredible. I have a place there and soon will be moving there permanently. I can’t think of a more special place to spend the rest of my life.

Lived in downtown Athens, New Orleans Foothill Ranch, CA, NY side of Connecticut, Memphis, and Nashville.

Fayetteville is obviously my favorite SEC town but Athens is right there with it.
Love Nashville but not a college town.
Auburn I felt like I was stuck in 1980s, likes Tuscaloosas bar scene. Knoxville is ok. The rest are awful towns

I can understand the comment. The description sounded exactly like someone was describing Auburn, Alabama - the toilet paper capitol of S E Alabama.

Fayetteville? Get real! I’ve been there! There is NO comparison. I rank Fayetteville only slightly ahead of Columbia SC and Columbia Missouri. Even Auburn is better and that’s not saying much

5th biggest city in the state, behind Atlanta, Augusta, Columbus, & Savannah in that order.
And it is beautiful on top of it. Only 30 mins from the mountains

Auburn is growing at over double the rate of Athens, has a higher average household income, lesser poverty rate and higher average home value, but yes Auburn is a backwoods hick town...
Also Athens is 6th largest

Athens and Fayetteville are both very nice, easily the best 2 in the SEC.
I do like Auburn. I think it's nice and quaint.
Lexington and Knoxville are also pretty nice. Those are good cities for a big school to be in.
