that coach Mullen has been able to do as much as he has with what he has. With any new coach you hope they can right the ship and start playing competitive ball. He’s exceeded what I thought he could. I felt the 10 wins last year was an anomaly and that we’d fall back some this year. We still may but it’s certainly leaning more towards 10 wins than 8.

I’m not here to puff up and proclaim us as back. Heaven knows we have lots to work on. He’s taken what he has and is making the best of it. What is surprising is that he let Franks play till hurt before going to Trask.

UF is also “I think” 10 scholly players short which makes depth a real issue. His recruiting has been hit and miss but winning helps correct that to a degree. If Florida wins in Jacksonville then that should be a big boost. Play a close lose may do the same. Lose big and then lose another down the road certainly wouldn’t help.

I like the way UF is headed so far and the next couple of weeks we will know more.

Go gators and beat the Dogs.

What’s with the dv’s? Not that I care but I’m just talking about gator football. Do some of y’all just hate UF that much?

I was told by the Florida fans I know that he would never be your coach as he was hated by high school coaches in Florida and terrible and lazy recruiter. I thought he would be good for you guys but I was told I don’t know shite!!!

My real question is why
Isn’t he recruiting better players with all this success?

Miami and FSU are down.

Florida should be dominating

But I don’t really follow the day to day so maybe your in for a big finish

He’s a good coach with bad talent he’ll never be a great coach unless he gets great talent

they have a top 15 class with several big name 4 stars from the state of florida. Thats a big step up from the big time guys he missed at state.

eta: I know it’s easier to recruit at Florida, but he isn’t doing a bad job

Good questions by both. Beats the hell out of me on why recruiting is the way it is. I wish it was better of course.

Not every topic is about the game. There are plenty of them. Win or lose I won’t be melting. I’ve been around too long. I’ve seen dramatic wins and crushing loses. Wins from the lesser team and losses from the better team. If you’re a real fan then I shouldn’t even have to say that.

Georgia is favored and most likely the better team. Doesn’t mean UF won’t win!!

Book it bro!!

I don’t think he’s the Top 5 class every year type of guy, but he found some real under the radar guys at State and turned them into studs. Im not sure the state of Mississippi gets combed over like Florida does for leftovers, but Mullen seems to find those guys.

Regardless, you know he’s going to make the most out of what he has. His biggest problem seemed to be trying to get too cute in game at inexplicable times. But you know the product he puts on the field will give you a chance every game from an Xs and Os standpoint.

I still don’t know if he’s a championship caliber coach though. He’s going to have to start consistently pulling in the higher profile guys eventually. Jimmy’s and Joes.

Interesting question with a few possible answers:
a) He isn't smart enough
b) He isn't personable enough
c) He doesn't work hard enough
d) He doesn't cheat like the rest of you bastids

Hard to know which one it could be.
Until you compare him to some of the better recruiters. Then we all know what the correct answer is.

I don’t know how but Jeremy Foley scared the living shite out of our boosters when Urban left and wanted to be cleaner. We are paying the price now in recruiting, Foley was the worst thing that ever happened to our football program. Stricklin and Mullen have to open the network back up if they want to recruit top 3 again. Pell, and Urban showed we can throw bags with the best of them, we just aren’t very smart. We can’t drop bags like the big dogs right now.

I agree that expecting him to bring in top 5 classes and elite recruits will be far and few. Assistant coaches need to close some of those deals themselves. Success helps and a coach like Grantham on the D side doesn't hurt. Some coaches can't do both. Develop and recruit.

Without doubt trying to be cute or overthink late game plays has been a big problem for him. It showed in the LSU game and one other I can't think of atm. Let's hope he learned his lesson

Mullen is a great coach. As far as scheming, he’s the best in college football. He does a lot with a little. Wait until a few years from now, he’ll own everyone.

Eh.

Hes a newer version of Malzahn. With a great QB, he can be great.

But he doesn't play up to the moment.

Mullen is an earthworm bitch, but other than that, he’s a good coach.

He appears better than the two coaches before him. As of now I'll take my chances with him.

he's not. too much of a nerd. i know bc i am one too. he'll be super competitive and a pain in everybody's arse, but he doesn't have the chops/edge to put FLA in elite, top 4 company if not for maybe a lucky year or two with a heisman caliber QB like Burrow.

sucks for him, but he's just not as fun to be around as Coach O. Nickie doesn't have to be fun. he's earned it from a long period of arse-holy excllence. but Mullen is too nice, yet too geeky at the same time. he can be good, but he won't win a championship. he'll ruin some other folks' championship runs though.

i'm not convinced that Coach O is a championship coach either. but I'd take him over Merlins any day. did i mention i don't LIKE merlins? FWIW, i like Gus less. That MF is a POS.
