They seem to put him on a lot of Bama games though. Networks should keep commentators away from their alumni games imo.

Am I crazy, or did they not used to do it as much (alumnus commentators)?

It seems to happen more now, but I’m not sure if that’s real or just perceived.

Certainly seems like it happens a lot more than it used to. Whether it's McElroy on Bama games, Murray was on a CBS UGA game earlier this year, Shockley was on UGA games last year. It's a constant these days

Makes no sense to me. Keep players away from their old teams, I mean isn't that common sense to eliminate potential for bias?

I'll never understand the Bama obsession with thinking every announcer is against them

Holy strawman, Batman! I wasn't aware Bama fans even acknowledged or commented that much on any particular announcer. LSU fans are the ones who take each and every innocuous remark as a personal affront.

As far as GMac, he's okay. Doesn't go off on tangents or beat a point into the ground like Gary.

They used to avoid as much as possible. I remember a while back where they actually had Herbstreit do a different game than their prime time one because it was OSU. Now they don’t care. We had Aaron Murray when we played UGA and my god was he bad. Wasn’t even remotely trying to be neutral.

I don’t hate McElroy that much when he does game, but when he does Bama games it is terrible.

He’s never really bothered me before. Last night his commentary on the tackle out of bounds on BRob was straight up ignorant on his part

God the tweets in that article are so whiney.

McElroy is awesome. Way better than most of the douchebags they pick to announce games.

Alabama fans act like Gary Danielson hates Alabama

Fans at a lot of programs feel the same way about him and their respective teams.

I think he calls exactly what he sees, good and bad, and his observational breakdowns are usually quite good.

Obviously there’s something about the way he speaks that must rub people the wrong way, I just don’t really understand what it is.

He's the most knowledgeable college football analyst on TV...and it's not close. The guy brings more interesting and informative information to the broadcasts than any of the others...because he's done his homework!
The guy QBed for years in college and pro, has been doing this job for years, and has learned to go into the programs the week of the game and talk to the coaches and assistants to get pieces of info that we'd never know otherwise.
Finally, when a guy is called a homer by EVERYBODY, you know exactly the opposite is true.
PS- I don't like his mid western accent either, but I do like what he adds to the telecast!

I think McElroy is a good color guy. He is knowledgeable and has a pretty good delivery. There are times when I think he wants to appear neutral about Bama, so he goes completely the other way. That late hit was an easy call and he acted like it was an egregious call. Other than that, he’s good to me.

Marcus and Orlovsky are two of the most obnoxious and overbearing people on ESPN.

If they were a stock then buy them for their real worth and sell them for what they believe they're worth.

He tries. But his condensing attitude puts a lot of folks off. Born with a silver spoon.

In the infamous words of coach Saban to G-Mac after yet another 3 and out: "Are you concussed"?

Pretty sure McElroy fricked the OP's mom and girlfriend in a wild threesome while he watched from a corner.

Alabama and Auburn fans would be calling for their teams to leave the SEC if they got treated by the media and officials like the rest of the SEC teams do. They have no idea just how much unequal treatment they get. The SEC office really needs to be moved just to get rid of the favoritism.

I don't usually have a problem with McElroy calling games but that comment he made after the late hit on Brian Robinson was stupid. He's trying WAY too hard to be impartial.
