Me to but i'm talking a for sure measuring stick. I'll be happy with a top 25 defense.

I don't think we'll miss as many assignments...but most of all, our tackling will be with much more ferocity...with Robert Atiga and Austin Flynn providing a more physical presence, teams like Alabama and LSU won't be able to line up and just run the ball straight at us....I think we will be top 20 in the nation on defense, that combined with the always stellar offense of Petrino give the Hogs a legit shot at playing for the NC this coming season.

I always thought Robinson came off as a candy-arse.

Defenses tend to take the persona of the coach.

It's kind of how it works especially in college. Where recruits are most likely going to go where they feel the most comfortable and so their personalities will resemble that of the coaches that recruited them. In some cases I think we got some good kids but the defense was soft in most spots with only a couple of exceptions.

We have to establish a run game imo.

You think we will see as many 5 WR's sets as last season or that we will see less of them?

Go back and watch the last 6 games from last season and compare them versus this season. Way more power sets with Knile and a lot more play action involved. We ran some 5 wide but nowhere even near the amount that we did this season.

We run a prostyle offense that adapts to the personnel. Last year we didn't have personnel to line up in a 3 wide set effectively a lot. I expect we see more of the play action.

Yep. I'm excited to get back to what we were running two years ago. I'm looking forward to seeing Small on the field a lot more this season. He is going to be killer blocking for Knile.

it will be interesting to see if Horton can hold on to the starting WR spot. I think Wade will push him and has a good shot at taking that spot before next season.

I agree. That was one of many things that stuck out to me as well.

Things that stick out to me.

Arky fans can you help me out here:
quote:

WR
2 Julian Horton (Jr., 6-1, 194)
1 Marquel Wade (So., 5-11, 185)

quote:

OG
76 Tyler Deacon (Sr., 6-4, 300)
65 Mitch Smothers (So., 6-4, 296)

quote:

QB
13 Brandon Allen (Fr., 6-3, 212)
17 Brandon Mitchell (Jr., 6-4, 230)

quote:

86 Trey Flowers (So., 6-4, 243)

I thought he left the team?

Horton has been on the team longer and has more in game experience. They are both very talented and would be good options as starters, but I think Wade brings a little more big play ability to the table, although Horton is no slouch.

OG
76 Tyler Deacon (Sr., 6-4, 300)
65 Mitch Smothers (So., 6-4, 296)

Deacon is a 5th year senior who has experience at all the O-line positions. I think either of these guys would be competent starters (Smothers played a lot last season as a true frosh), but Petrino probably just wanted to give deference to the 5th year senior here.

quote:

QB
13 Brandon Allen (Fr., 6-3, 212)
17 Brandon Mitchell (Jr., 6-4, 230)

Mitchell's been on the basketball team while Allen has made all the workouts. Allen is very talented and will push Mitchell for #2, but I think Mitchell will win back that 2nd string spot before the season.

86 Trey Flowers (So., 6-4, 243)

I think you're thinking of another true frosh DE from last season, Lonnie Gosha. Flowers played a lot as a true frosh and should be one of our top 4 DE's along with Tenarius Wright, Austin Flynn, and Chris Smith.

Think of Wade as a Joe Adams replacement, and Horton as a Wright type hands/route running.

I wouldn't put a ton of stock in how they list the top 2...Outside of Hamilton, I think you'll see plenty of rotation between Horton, Wade, Minor (Wilson will be in the rotation once he hits campus)

Basketball...I wouldn't be surprised it ended like this though for the fall (gonna be a battle for #2)

New rumor that Highsmith is out for Spring (torn pec)

Not as bad as Knile and he obviously stepped in last year...could be worse IMO
