- East Central features first year head coach Max Pendery, who was a graduate assistant at Arkansas in Eric Musselman's first season (2019-20). Pendery left Arkansas for East Central to be an assistant under former Razorback assistant Chris Crutchfield, who served as the Tigers head coach last season.

- In addition to Coach Pendery, East Central features Crutchfield's sons Jalen (a senior guard who also played for former Razorback assistant Corey Williams at Stetson) and Josh (a redshirt sophomore).

- Other teams of note in the preseason poll are SEC foes Kentucky (#10), Alabama (#14), Tennessee (#18) and Auburn (#22). Mississippi State were among those getting votes. Also in the poll is potential Hall of Fame Classic opponent Illinois (#11).

- Head coach Eric Musselman added two assistant coaches for the 2021-22 season. However, the two are not new to
working with Coach Muss.

- Gus Argenal worked under Musselman for two seasons at Nevada.
^ 2017-18 season as an assistant coach
^ 2018-19 season as the associate head coach
^ The Wolf Pack went to the NCAA Tournament both years, including the Sweet 16 in his first season, and won the
Mountain West Championship both years as well.

- Keith Smart has a long history with Musselman both as a player with the Rapid City Thrillers and Florida Beachdogs
and as an assistant coach on Musselman’s staff with the Golden State Warriors.
^ Served as head coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings.
^ Overall, Smart spent nine years playing professional basketball and 22 years coaching in professional basketball, including assistant positions with the New York Knicks, Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat, Kings, Warriors and Cavaliers.
He got his start in the coaching business as head coach of the Fort Wayne Fury of the CBA in 1997.

Trey Wade and Kamani Johnson will not play against East Central. Wade is working his way back from an injury to a tendon in his right knee. Johnson is dealing with a wrist injury and looking likely for opening night. Trey got a workout in prior to the Red-White game and looked good, but was nowhere near full speed. Musselman said Wade will go about 30 minutes non-contact in Saturday’s practice and the hope is for him to be ready by opening night.

The projected starting 5 for the game is Davonte Davis, JD Notae, Au’Diese Toney, Stanley Umude and Jaylin Williams. Musselman was adamant, though, that this 5 can change given there is practice today and Saturday. He will probably cap his rotation at 9 players for the first stretch of the game.

Musselman said this first exhibition would not be happening if Max Pendery, a former GA of his with the Razorbacks, was not the head coach at East Central. He said Max did a tremendous job in his time at Arkansas and added it is really cool for him to have a former GA make an impact at another program and become a head coach so quickly.
