Are you surprised bowl eligibility is having an impact on the schedule debate?

Everything I’m reading suggests the lower half of the conference wants less conference games, so they will have an easier path to bowl eligibility.

But the bowls seem like a dying breed. The attendance at bowls is down even amongst the active players on the roster.

I know bowl practices used to be considered a major benefit, but with the way rosters are turning over in the portal era, is it really a big deal anymore?

From a fan’s perspective in the playoff era, the non-contenders are playing to be a spoiler more than they are playing for a bowl appearance.

Yeah, I think the amount of turnover isn't anywhere near high enough for the practices to not benefit.

I hate to be the spoiler but winning records equal more fans attending more games which equals more money. I would expect the lower half of the conference to do whatever it takes to make that as easily attainable as possible.

Yes, also winning out of conference games helps show the dominance of the conference.

The money from bowls comes from TV, they could okay in empty stadiums and still want them.

And yes I can guarantee the bowl eligibility is a big deal.

UGA wants less conference games so we can play clemson, notre dame, oregon, etc.. more often.

The fact that bama fans havent figured out that their own AD handles their own out of conference scheduling baffles me.

Grow some balls, bama.

Just speaking for Kentucky, I believe we’ve only had like one or two guys total not play in our recent Gator and Citrus bowl appearances under Stoops. They’ve wanted to play to help make that next step as a program.

The problem for the bottom half is you don’t consistently bring in better players unless you show progress and progress is shown through consistently making bowl games (at least better games).

Take that away and what’s the point for programs trying to actually build up their programs? It makes it damn near impossible.

With the money involved, especially now that players are getting paid in the open, why not expand the season?

Maybe add a 13th week that can be scheduled with a scrub, and/or maybe have lower performing teams match up against comparable teams from other conferences during bowl season?

Exactly our Bowl game against UNC was a big deal for recruiting. We missed some players but our guys went out, fought and crushed UNC. We get Spencer rattler and Stogner, wells, beal.

as opposed to when UVA crushed us and it was the beginning of the end of Muschamp

Exactly, and while we're at it, when are they going to exempt players from having to take classes? These guys are going to be making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, and we expect them to have to sit in some stupid Philosophy class? For what? These players aren't coming here to play School.

9 conference games also affects the top half of teams. The top half will have a lowered SOS because the bottom half has more losses…..
