Are you as excited about Nix as you were for Cam and Nick?

I didn't really get excited about Cam until after Arkansas State game (the scramble) and I was only in tenth grade at the time and didn't follow Auburn football as closely as I do now. Also didn't know the rant existed.

I was pissed when I initially heard Nick was named starter for 2013 but that changed pretty quick.

Seeing Nix named starter yesterday was very surprising but today I am fully pumped and on the Nix train

I'm excited for Nix but this really all depends on Gus. As a starting point I think Nix likely has all the tools/ability needed to succeed.

Pre-Cam you could really argue that Auburn hadn't had a great option at QB in some time, but since then you had Marshall plowing through the SEC and a very competent (if not perfect) QB in Stidham who may have a viable NFL future.

What Gus does is what will likely dictate whether Nix can thrive or not.

“Jeremy Johnson is going to be an all SEC quarterback”...

90% of our fans thought this including me.

There was no reason not to believe that. He had everything and showed it his first season.

You have to be an optimist in life and there was zero reasons to believe Jeremy Johnson was not going to be a fantastic quarterback for Auburn going into 2015

Yea I think the pressure got to him. He should have been amazing. The pressure got to Tua in the Clemson game. He was clearly forcing stuff.

because the media told us this as well. Gus talked him up some, but Gus and the fans didn't put him on preseason Heisman lists.

If I were an AU fan this would be my take. AU fans have been excited about every QB since Cam. Only Nick excelled. Most failed miserably.

The good thing is Nix shouldn’t have nearly as much pressure as any other of these Auburn QBs you are referring to. Auburn has been quiet all offseason and there’s not much buzz besides the D line. He’s in a perfect position to be the best Freshman in the country this year if he just does his job with few mistakes.

If he does well then the pressure will start to mount at the end of the year, but no one is expecting him to lead Auburn to a 10-0 start like they were with Jeremy Johnson.

No. It remains to be seen if he’s truly the better option (for CGM’s type of offense).

All of our practices were non-contact for the QB’s, and Gus has done well in the past with a run-heavy QB who can absorb hits all season long.

I’m rooting for Nix to do well, but reserving excitement.

This. I was beyond ecstatic when we got Jarrett Stidham.

Bo Nix is going to be an asset for Auburn. Finally we have a QB that can score in the red zone.
With that being said I see a offensive leader and it carrying over throughout the entire team.
Defense finally gets a well deserved rest.

And for the most part, your enthusiasm was well-founded up until the LSU game last year, after which he went into a tailspin which lasted right up until the MCB performance against Purdue.

I'm not sure how much Stidham's failure to live up to expectations at AU can be laid at his feet versus the failures of his OL, RBs and HC/OC. Sure, he didn't do himself any favors, but the entire offense went into the tank following the LSU loss.

Props to Desmond Howard on his analysis of JJ. He was the only person I heard in the media that said he thought JJ was very overrated and would not do well. He saw something no one else did.

If he is properly developed, I think Bo is going to give us the perfect prototype for an RPO quarterback (Unlike Cam who was a force of nature, and Nick who was more a straight zone-read guy) whereby he can read the 2nd and 3rd level defenders and use his arm to get the ball out quickly and hit receivers in mismatches. His scrambling ability is going to give him a 3rd option to boot or draw. Hopefully Boobee is good enough to draw 2nd and 3rd level guys closer to the line of scrimmage.

I honestly see him as a mechanical equivalent to Stidham. We do not know how he will act under pressure yet so that will be the determining factor..

Like NGT said, when Stidham signed we were all thinking exactly like we are today.

Cam was a freak

Nick had the best manner about him of any QB I have ever saw. Just a cool customer

Neither of those things we knew before the season started. We are all just in a wait and see pattern. Hell, he could show some serious Freshman errors early and Gatewood could be in there in 4 games. WE just dont know.

Gus did not figure out how to use Cam until the second half of the Clemson game and everyone was worried about Nicks passing ability to get to excited early. Plus we knew Ellis Johnson was the DC.
