It seems that the nationwide trend of season ticket sales is down for 2019. I believe a large part of this is simply due to ticket prices. Paying upwards of $75 per ticket to watch your team take on an FCS opponent is pretty steep, especially when inflation has been rampant over the last decade. It's just too expensive for the average family of 4 or more, especially when you can stay at home and watch the game in HD in the comfort of your den. I think people have started to make a hard choice on what to spend money on and football is way down the list for a lot of families.

I believe that ticket prices will have to come down to change the downward trend.

LSU charges based on who the opponent is. $20 for FCS teams and $125 for alabama.

I think it's a combination of things. Ticket prices, concession prices, times for games, and parking. Take Ole Miss for example. We constantly get 11am games so that is tough for people who drive in from out of town on game day. Then you can't park anywhere within a mile of the stadium without having to purchase a parking pass. Can't remember the concession prices from last year but I know they are typically the high price of a stadium. Only pro for that is the unlimited refills on fountain drinks.

yes. Its just too easy to watch on tv. They make so much money from TV, just lower prices and up the game experience.

Yes, for the average person, it is financially difficult or impossible to bring your family to a game. That said, as long as you turn on the TV and see full stadiums, then the ticket prices will remain the current price or go even more. Even at current prices, the demand is still there for SEC football tickets for the schools to charge as much as they do.

It's not only that, it's the time. I don't like spending my entire fcking weekend going to a college football game that lasts 4+ hours because of TV. Add in jacked up hotel rooms and I've got better things to do and to spend my money on. I'll still watch the vast majority of the games but if I go to the game it means I am missing others and I'm sure as hell not going to spend an entire weekend to watch Tennessee play Ga State or UTC in person.

I think this is a great point. Not only can you watch your game in HD on a couch in A/C, but you also can watch all of the other games if you want to. If you want to go do something else, you can power off the TV and go. If you are at a college football game, it's going to take an hour to get from the stadium to your car.

If you are coming from out of town, it's the only thing you are doing on Saturday and then part of a day Sunday. I do this once or twice a season but that's it.

For a team like Alabama there are only two, maybe three games worth going to. Then you better hope those games fall in late October or November or risk a heat stroke. Better off just skipping the regular season and saving your money for the post season.

The secondary markets tell you the worth of the tickets. I would guess for the most part tickets sell below thier cost(face value + required donation) but not always.

The whole thing has gotten way too big to be fun anymore.

We used to have tix for Ole Miss and MSU. Let them go and bought a boat. More quality family time anyway

The price is determined by demand if you go through a scalper. A lick of sense and you can readily knock their prices down to $60. I almost don’t see how a scalper can even make money most the time before kickoff they’ll still have a handful of tickets

Being a mixed marriage, it was tough to find a boat that didn't have red/blue or maroon on it. Can't show favoritism

The competition never dies

Probably, why anyone spends 2k on season tickets is besides me. There are like 2-3 home games a year worth going to that you can easily buy off stubhub for $200-$300 tops for great seats. Save over $1,000

Yes, all of that. Only difference is if I am going to a game, I like the shitty ones because it's more about the environment than watching a good game. And typically the tickets, hotels etc. are cheaper.

Ticket sales are down because everyone knows they are gonna get embarrassed by The Mississippi State Bulldogs this year.
