Are Bama fans more surprised by Mathieu's success in the NFL or LSU fans about Henry's?

I thought Henry was too slow in hitting the hole to have success in the NFL. I was a tad bit off target.

No one has gotten Henry's skill level right, except his high school coach. The more you rely on him the stronger he gets. In the 4th quarter, everyone slows down and then defenses start making some serious business decisions.

I didn’t think either would be good nfl players
I thought tyrann was too small, not strong enough, not fast enough and I was worried about his discipline
I thought Henry wouldn’t be able bully nfl guys, I thought his agility and acceleration would hold him back
I was wrong on both. Both are badass players and seem to be great guys

I honestly thought Honey Badger would be successful in NFL of he got his off the field issues fixed.
Dude made to many plays to be ignored and was going to get a shot. Seems he made the most of it and I'm happy for him.

I did too
Also though Matthieu would struggle due to his size, 5’9” against some of these huge receivers and tightends.
But he’s a baller.

I thought Mathieu would have a career in the NFL if he didn’t have any more weed issues...but admittedly, thinking he would be a CB, I wasn’t sure how long that career would be...moving him to safety was brilliant though and suited his skill set to a T...he’s one of the best out there now...

Agree with all that

I quite honestly never gave Mathieu a second thought after the 2011 season.

From the outside looking in, I’m more surprised with Mathieu. Doesn’t have the measurables, and he had issues coming out of LSU (and getting kicked off the team). Glad to see him having a successful career though.

Well, let's see. The following describes 2 players who turned out to be good professional players in the sport of football.
A) This player won the Heisman trophy, was an exemplary young man in character and behavior while representing his university.
B) This player was kicked off his university's football team for substance abuse and had a generally bad reputation.
Which one is more surprising to you?

I thought Henry would be successful as long as he went to a team that believed in the run.
Mathieu I was sorta wrong. I thought he would be good but I thought he would be used in the slot. Never expected him to be a safety.

T Mathieu is actually a really good guy and always has been. He NEVER had a bad reputation. His issues were limited to using marijuana/synthetic marijuana to deal with the anxiety and pressure he experienced. He fell into it , but worked his way out of yet hole. He is extremely generous with his time and money. He is the ultimate team leader for the Chiefs and per Andy Reid is responsible for changing their team culture.

Mathieu has become a better player in KC than he was in Arizona or Houston. In those places he seemed like just a solid starter (other than that one really good year in Arizona), but in KC he has become an elite player.
I'm not surprised that they're both doing well, but they are probably doing better than I would have thought.

Are you saying he self-medicated to deal with emotional issues?

This.
There was never and doubt about his skill.

He is a really good football player. He brings in most every game. Salute

I thought both would have good careers but not close to be superstars. Lol

This is a pretty good comparison. I've definitely been impressed and pleased with Mathieu's pro career. I'll always have a place in my heart for undersized, scrappy DB's, so I never disliked him in college or anything like some Bama fans. But I definitely didn't think his skillset would translate to the next level. Happy to say I was wrong on that!
