Well...the powers that be need to keep the Taters in the mix so the possibility of the Gump/TaterBowl III is still alive.
In terms of degree of derp-ness,I think Clemson losing to a team from NY, named after a fruit, is the worst loss for a top 5 team this season outside of OU losing to ISU and their LB/QB3...at Home.

But yeah, Clemson should have dropped more. You cannot tell me losing to Syracuse was a better loss than LSU.
And Washington State got destroyed. No way they should be in the top 20.

Clemson is still top ten because so many other teams lost. Any powers that be would likely not want Clemson back in the playoff. They are a tiny market without a national following. That may change in the future, but the playoff would benefit from four of the following in any order UGA/OSU/Mich/ND/Bama/USC/OU.

Look, I generally like UGA quite a bit, but how are they much more of a national program than Clemson? Neither of these have the cachet of one of the true blue bloods.
