Anything more stupid than firing your coach and letting him finish the year?

If they finish strong it definitely invites controversy.

Also really crappy for the players. How are they expected to play hard week to week when they’re taking coaching from a staff they know is fired?

I just don’t see the upside. Wait until the last game like Auburn did with Chizik or do a real firing.

I think it’s respectable.

Coaches want to finish what they started and there is no animosity towards Ed anymore.

Give this team the best chance to win some games

It’s a recruiting head-scratcher. Unless they're wanting to freely/publicly open their search.

It is going to be a feeding frenzy with schools going after LSU recruits.

You think recruits didn’t already know there was going to be a new coach next season?

This has been a done deal since the UCLA game, that some of you actually thought O had any chance of coming back next year is hilarious

He has inexperienced first year coordinators. There’s nobody to take over.

Hiring gus? Letting the alumni run the athletic department? Extending Gus? I mean the list is endless…

Cry havoc! And let slip the poachers of recruits!

Yeah. We are going to see a lot of LSU recruits get the ole razzle dazzle in the coming weeks.

With LSU's luck they will go undefeated the rest of the year.

Of all the ways to get rid of a coach this is the dumbest I have ever seen. Nice work LSU, recruiting dumpster fire incoming, players won’t play, lame duck head coach.

Nope.

I really hope this is true because the LSU AD is fricking stupid if it is.

None of the staff is going to give a frick about recruiting and all they are going to do is start looking for their next job.

Tennessee did this with Dooley, although they didn't even officially fire him, it was just well known the entire season he would be fired.

2022 Commits

The Louisiana kids will all stick. Hurricanes, humidity , Mardi Gras and mosquitoes is all they know. But those TEs from FL and GA ? The Rhym kid ? If the head coach is gone the position coaches overseeing their recruitment will be on the move as well right ?

I don’t follow recruiting like I used to. NCAA made me quit but surely other SEC schools will be getting those guys back on the unofficial visit lists.

[quote]Hiring gus? Letting the alumniYep, the minions of the Barn are fine ones to talk on this subject. Since Pat Dye retired every time they hire a new coach all the big donors start infighting over who the next hire is going to be, and it shows. Tuberville was their best coach up to this point since Dye. Gus less good, and lets see about the present coach. This Georgia fan enjoys the backbiting on the Plain.

Basically yes.

This is how Tennessee has fallen so far. They hired Dooley who didn't do well at all obviously. But then the entire last season the staff did absolutely nothing in recruiting because none of them gave a frick.

Any relationships they did build, they took with them.

Why would any of the staff give a crap about recruiting for the next guy? They don't.

The way you handle this is you hire someone in the program as an interim head coach, and you at least make it seem as though they have a chance and will get strong consideration for the position.

Then that person will bust their arse the rest of the season, try to recruit well, and all that to impress. Meanwhile the rest of the staff will be doing the same thing, because they want to keep their jobs and have an advantage with the new guy.

We saw this with Oklahoma and Ohio St recently, even though they went ahead and kept the next guy. But even if you fire them - you get full effort the remainder of the season until you hire someone else.

The best part: LSU fans think this is all great.
