A recent graduate was served a warrant regarding something involving records tampering. Local, state, and federal agencies are investigating. Apparently both students and faculty are involved.
With the feds involved, it makes me think that it has something to do financially.

Yeah that's what it feels like. So far, nothing is mentioning anything regarding athletics.
But it does mention that it could have "institution-wide impact"

Hearing it’s a pretty major issue. Records from all faculty, staff and students may have been compromised.
Nothing to do with athletics directly, but there’s likely to be more announced soon.

Just saw the last line in the link where it mentioned that cyber security is involved. I guess dude might have hacked all the records?

I wouldn't worry too much. Then, I'm not an MSU fan.
But, seriously, these sorts of things at public universities aren't likely to be institutionalized. Universities work differently from corporations. Probably just some kids with a point of access in the administration cheating the system. Highly unlikely to be athletes, who have checks on them running through the athletic department.

I was going to hammer you but this is a legit question. This is the first I have heard of but it doesn't surprise me. It's a crooked world that we live in.

Not worried about athletes being involved. I just worry about my university in general.
And yeah I agree. The more I think about it, the more I think it's probably CS majors hacking into the MSSTATE Database and either viewing information or "adjusting" grades.

Wait...I don't understand. Is there another aspect to an SEC university than athletics? That seems unlikely. I mean, how do students attend games if they have papers to write and facts to memorize?

I find it hard to believe that it was someone changing grades. If you are so dumb that you have to change your grades in the system, then there is no way you are smart enough to hack in and actually do it.
