He actually “opted out”, the new softer, snowflake version of QUIT.

In hindsight it was the best move he could have made for his career. If he doesn't get schooled under Belichick, he likely never becomes the legendary coach he became.

Nah, LSU turned Saban into the rock star now
He was still an unknown at Mich St when LSU plucked him away forever changing coaching salaries
Emmert is the one that created the coaching salary boom you see now as Sexton became the go to guy for negotiating that deal

Saban and LSU were both unknown at that particular time.

He worked under Parcels from 1981-1990, then took the Browns job in 1991, then worked under Parcels again from 1996-1999.

And won two Super Bowls as Parcels's defensive coordinator in the process. Belichick was arguably most responsible for that second Super Bowl win as his defensive game plan shut down Buffalo's high flying offense.

Coach Saban was transient in his professional nature. Then 2007 happened. The promised land, the football mecca of the civilized world, and the Football Capital of the South.
Now rolling into his 14th year with the most dominant college football team of the century he has finally found a place where talent meets expectations and forms the greatest national championship tree shreading machine in college football. Alabama + Saban = Rolling Stones
ROLL TIDE Y'ALL!!!!!!!

Another term for better opportunity?
Why does anyone care why another person makes the job choices they do? There will be consequences for all actions of course but the person who makes those decisions are the ones who have to deal with it.
