From 4 years ago, but as we're closing on the anniversary of the event, I thought re-sharing how an athlete can use that influence to do good might be a welcome change of pace.

Shaq and PO Bobby White surprise kids - January, 2016

quote:

GAINESVILLE, FL – Talk about calling in the reserves. Back on January 15, a Gainesville police officer was sent to respond to a noise complaint about kids playing basketball too “loudly.” Officer Bobby White showed up to the game, but instead of punishing the kids, he joined in on the game for a while and even promised to come back for a rematch.

Dash cam video of the encounter went viral and was seen by millions online. One of the people that saw the video was none other than former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal. On Saturday, Shaq surprised Officer White and the Gainesville Police. He wanted to be part of Officer White’s backup when he re-challenged the kids to a street game.

Shaq is not only one of LSU's greatest alumni. He's one of the greatest human beings on earth that just gets his place in the world. I love that guy so much.

I remember talking to someone a few years back that had had some kind of interaction with Shaq in a small Georgia town. Don't remember the details but he did say that Shaq was one of the nicest people he had had the pleasure of meeting.

I agree. Love that guy. He looks like the kind of fellow you would want to hang out with and have lunch. Some of these athletes go pro and become flaming primadonnas that think the world revolves around them. Shaq is alright with me!

I was SO expecting a troll

Well done.

Mrs. 19 showed me this clip over the weekend and wanted to post it, but forgot all about it.

Shaq is 2 mos. younger than me, and I am proud to have shared the campus with him - Dude was a Superstar before he even played a game.

The way he handled himself back then, even then, was as a humble, gentle giant. Same desire to make people laugh and clown, but in a positive way. Much like he is now.

with his skinny arse.
