Buy a steak and let it sit on the road for a few hours.

How old are you? Serious question. You’ve got two main areas to choose from. The Vista (over 30) or Five Points (under 30).
Plenty of good restaurants up and down Main Street in front of the Capital as well.

Cola's or Motor Supply Company for dinner.

Stay at the Whitney hotel.
Might even see a player or two.

BBQ hash. Looks awful, tastes divine. Any BBQ place around there should have it.

Motor Supply requires a reservation in The Vista but it is usually good.
Lunch ... I really like Yesterday’s in Five Points.
It’s when the sun goes down that the two areas become distinctly different.

Ps. Best barbecue I’ve ever had was in Latta SC. Not really near Columbia. But still.
Shulers
He performs a fast-smoke method that put a .35 inch red smoke ring on the shoulder.
Impressed.

Stay in the vista area or main street, which is probably close to where you are staying.
For food ideas -
Nicer good food:
Bourbon
Colas
Blue Marlin
Liberty TapRoom
Pearlz
Halls Chophouse (if on the companies dime)
More Laid Back:
Pawleys Front Porch
Home Team BBQ (New-Very Good)
The grande on main
Rockaways
Yesterdays
Best Fried Chicken ever:
Bernies- near the stadium
Bars -
Pearlz upstairs
The Grande on Main
Flying Saucer
Main St Public House

i am partial to Tera and Al's Upstairs in west cola for dining. Tera owner and chef is a bama grad and fan. Go to The Vista at night for a multitude of bars.

Black Rooster just opened up, right past the Gervais St. bridge. I've heard good things about it.

Beautiful Columbia. You're a lucky man.
Most of the locals can be found at Hardee's on a weeknight.
If you're feeling fancy, try the outstanding Bojangles by Willy B.
