All y’all that talk about moving the tournament from Hoover

I follow LSU and Southern Mississippi. Went to the LSU and Ark game. Today I will drive down to Montgomery from Birmingham to watch Southern Mississippi play in the Sun Belt Championship. Looking through the map app At River Walk Stadium it is easy to tell parking could be a problem. The Hoover Met is set up for this type of an event and would be hard to duplicate. Safe parking, RV parking right on site. What do you want?

I attended two sessions this week and thought the same thing… it would be difficult to replicate.
16-20k seat stadium
RV parking
Tailgate space
Large event center for Fan Fair
What other venue has all that? An urban setting just won’t work.

I was there for the Bama vs UF game. The only thing I would suggest is a better way to clear out the stadium between the first session, that went into OT, and the second session. Folks were standing in long lines for well over 30 minutes. There were very few porta johns around and thankfully someone pointed out the Fan interaction building. It has been years since I have been to a game at the met and the mens restrooms have not been updated at all. That game was a sell out and there were people standing in line for a urinal. Overall I think based on being centrally located and the other things mentioned that it is a good location.

I know there is a proposal to add another exit on I 459 to service Hoover. I have to believe one of this projects main goals is to facilitate getting traffic in and out of the stadium area.

Yes the exit will be 2 miles down towards Tuscaloosa. I’m sure they will try and figure out a back way that they can get people to it

I guess if you have an RV, it's a great site, but how many RVs actually make the trip? 100? With 2 people per RV, that's a whopping 200 fans. Even if you double it, that's not a significant number. I'd rather have it at a place that has a bunch of hotels within walking distance.
BTW: Oklahoma City has both -- hotels within walking distance, and surface parking which could accommodate RV parking.

I am wondering what kind of attendance the other conferences had at their conference tourneys.

The only cool thing about having it in OKC would be having the ability to hold fights in front of Sonic HQ across from the ballpark. I know that you’re used to ugly land, no trees, shitty buildings, and lame people who don’t seem to have a place. But most of the rest of us try to avoid Oklahoma when we can - imo, truly the ugliest and dirtiest state in the country. And their culture is…redneck, I guess? But not exactly Southern. Can’t even get sweet tea there. Especially when you’re as far west as OKC.
ETA: but yes, Bricktown has the space.

It’s been approved by the state and the city, but is likely a 4-5 year project, at least. The main goal is to alleviate traffic on the other side of the interstate from the stadium. Stadium could see some benefit from it, but it’d mainly be residual benefit around the 459 interchange.
Pretty sure I read recently the city just approved some improvements to the stadium. I doubt the tournament is moving anywhere anytime soon if that happens. From all I’ve heard, the city and the SEC have a great relationship.

Bricktown is perfect for this. It might be the single redeeming quality about OU joining the conference.

It will never move. And it shouldn't. There are turf fields and a duplicate field behind the Met. If there are any delays, they can get the games played. That facility is amateur baseball mecca. So many tournaments played there.
