Example...
From 1893-2000 (107 years) LSU football was .630 in winning %.
Then from 2000-1/9/12 LSU jumped way up to .783 in winning % during that period.
My point is all it takes is the right coach to propel a program to new heights. For example Saban in this case.
All of this talk of Jimbo can't win there, impossible to win there, is just hogwash. LSU is an example of how the right coach can take a slightly above average program and turn it into a powerhouse for a period.

And they rode that success all the way until about 2011, only to be back hovering around .600 like they're fricking Troy or something.

It honestly takes recruiting the State well....as well as good coaching. Saban awoke a sleeping giant. Even Miles as head coach took us to two NCG’s after Saban.

It takes a bit more than just a good coach. But any business works on this principles. Good administrators who extend trust to good employees (coaches here) who extends trust to good teammates (assistants).
It should be common sense but unfortunately it isn't on today's world.

LSU made a commitment to winning. They gave Saban a ridiculous contract, built Sabanworld, and completely rebranded. The university has to be 100% committed to winning to win.
You can see that with LSU gymnastics right now. They just built the finest gymnastics facility in the world and will be competing every year for the national title and bringing in the top recruits. You can have great coaches but everyone needs to be great from the top to the bottom.
