Yeah, seriously.

Engie, is the rest of your fan base as pissed about this as you are? I can tell you're a bit perturbed to say the least .

Based on what I have read/heard, there seem to be mixed feelings on this one. Some love it, while others share engie's view.

Last year I had a discussion with one of my OM friends about when the egg bowl might return to Tday. We both were in favor of having it played on Thanksgiving, but we both thought that it would be a few years. I am glad that it happened so quickly.

Growing up, the egg bowl was always a part of the Thanksgiving celebration, and I am glad to see it back to the way things used to be. Hopefully this continues for years to come.

They come for LSU, I don't see how our case is any different.

The real reason for this is to allow Mullen to retrieve the Golden Egg on day 362 of Ole Miss ownership, robbing them of a full calendar year.

The response is very mixed. I think we'd all be alot more OK with the Egg Bowl being on Thanksgiving if we didn't already have a home Thursday locked in...

I can tell you this -- those with alot invested in the total experience that is SEC football weekends beyond simply showing up and scalping tickets are far more pissed off than the "mean" of the fanbase. Students and many that were going to watch these particular games on TV anyway love it...and those that can easily escape work on a half-day Thurs and take off Friday(UK game) probably don't mind it... I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to make that happen this year or not...

When was the last time MSU played a CBS game?

The last time State had a CBS home game was in 2005 against Alabama I do believe.

I was there. Think it was a 0-0 game at the half. Think Bama may have ran the kickoff back to start the 3rd quarter and on the kickoff to us, we (Pegues I believe) fumbled the return and a big Bama lineman picked it up and returned it for a TD. 14 pts in about 10 secs. Lost 17-0.

So a NATIONAL TV audience will see y'all go 0-4? At best 1-3? Got ya. I think that's extremely cool for you guys.

Couldnt care less about Moo State and their nice streak of being on Jefferson Pilot probably more than anyone. Prepare for meaningless matchups after about five games into 2013 and your season headed for a dumpster fire full alarm.

Feel free to link me to them telling anyone they had to play half their conference home games on Thursday...if you can?

The fact that you're playing half your SEC home games on Thursday is itself evidence that they told someone (you) that you had to do that.

ESPN says "you're playing on Thursday night," and you say "yessir we are, we're looking forward to it." The contractual obligations the conference has with the networks and the TV revenue said contracts secure means that our schools have nearly no say in the matter whatsoever.

They determine when we play. Why do you think most game times on SEC schedules are listed as "TBD" at this point?

quote:

and that reason is because they tell the SEC and ESPN to go frick themselves.

Lolnope

The ESPN Thursday night slot doesn't make ESPN nearly the money that their Saturday primetime slots do. That's why the SEC is rarely on a Thursday night outside of unusual circumstances. To have the SEC on Thursday, the networks would have to forego the revenue of the alternative, which is the SEC playing in primetime on a Saturday.

Also, I'm pretty sure there are some contractual obligations ESPN has regarding their Thursday night games and certain conferences (such as the MAC).

quote:

Ole Miss hasn't hosted a SINGLE Thurs game in Vaught-Hemingway since Egg Bowl 2002. You really trying to say that MSU is such a better tv draw for the conference that the SEC has given us 7 HOME conference games in this "exclusive" Thursday slot since they last gave OM one?

We also rarely schedule SEC teams for the early portion of our season, unlike you. Apples and oranges, engie. The reason y'all get those Thursday night games is that you have had SEC openers against SC and Auburn really early in your schedule.

Hell, this year we open our season against Vanderbilt... on a Thursday night. Granted, it's at Vandy, but your point about the kickoff weekend is valid here.

quote:

They didn't TELL us we had to do this. We volunteered on the Egg Bowl awhile back hoping to get/hold this Thanksgiving Night slot

Toe-may-toe/toe-mah-toe

You can go on and on about how you approached them and didn't tell them to "frick themselves" but what you need to understand here is that ESPN is like Don Corleone - you don't tell them to frick themselves, you don't even have permission to do that - you can say "we volunteered this and that" but, in the end, whatever decision THEY make is the final decision.
