Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian interviewed for the open Colorado coaching position on Wednesday and could be the front-runner for the job, a source told CBS Sports.
This comes two days after Buffaloes interim coach Darrin Chiaverini was interviewed for the full-time role. As of Wednesday, the pecking order to replace Mel Tucker is believed to be Sarkisian, Air Force coach Troy Calhoun and former Wisconsin and Arkansas coach Bret Bielema.
It has previously been reported that Calhoun and Bielema had interviewed at CU, which also reportedly had interest in Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.
Sarkisian's last head coaching role ended in 2015 as he was fired by USC following a leave of absence. Sarkisian, 45, has addressed his substance abuse battle (believed to be alcohol), telling CBS Sports during the 2019 College Football Playoff that he was not having any issues.

If Sark leaves, I bet we grab Freeze as OC.

Kind of dead end but he gets to live in Boulder and get paid millions. I’d be in

Most Colorado sites I've seen have Sark as their No.1 choice among the fans

And of course if this happens, the real irony
is that Saban highly recommended Mel Tucker to MSU
and was reportedly instrumental in his hiring,
leaving the vacancy at Colorado.

Why do coaches want to leave Coach Sabah?
Do they see the writing on the wall?

I’d be happy with Sark. Would prefer Bienemy but it’s still better than Fat Bert.

Not that I blame these guys when millions are on the table, but some dudes are just better coordinators than HCs. How many times does a guy have to get fired as a HC before he realizes he’s a better fit at coordinator? No shame in being an excellent career coordinator that makes millions. Sometimes egos get in the way of common sense.

What in the hell are you talking about? Sark was only fired once as a head coach and that was due to his alcoholism and not anything to do with his coaching acumen. The man as far as we know has been sober for years now and I believe his kids are still on the West coast. If the man can be closer to his kids and become a head coach again I fully support him.

Been hearing rumblings for a few weeks from Tuscaloosa.
Saban wants Hugh Freeze. Saban gauged his interest when Sark interviewed for Mississippi State and Freeze reciprocated.
So this has been in motion for some weeks now.
Some are confirming if Sark leaves, Freeze to Alabama.

The conference nixed this when we (and others) tried to bring him on as just an analyst. You think they're ready to have him back as an on the field coach?

The SEC won't keep a coach from taking a job in the SEC for long because the SEC would put itself in position for a major lawsuit.

Why do they want to join him in the first place
Seems to me they have ulterior motives to begin with!

Many who've left would have seen championships on the wall had they had they not. So I'm afraid I don't see your point.
