The alternative is to schedule 2 big time OOC teams a year, and with the playoff at 4 teams I'm not sure we are quite ready to move forward with that. I think if the playoff expanded then you would see a lot more schedules like that
Yep. Expand the playoffs to 8 (and take the regular season back to 11 games) with a guaranteed slot of each P5 champ and the early OOC schedule will be filled with marquee games every week.

Why wouldn't an Alabama fan simply give up his season tickets, and overpay, through Stub Hub, for the LSU game or one or two SEC games?
Because it's Alabama football and having season tickets is the sort of thing you pass from generation to generation or wait on a list for years to get.
It sounds cheesy but it's 100% true. It's not something you just give up because your are crushing good but not great SEC opponents and your 3 OOC home games aren't good.

Bama still behind curve with home and homes.
About two years too late.

LSU had that one year
From 1979-1991 LSU played:
USCw 2x
Notre Dame 4x
FSU 8x
A&M 6x
tOSU 2x
Miami 1x
Washington 1x
Basically any two of those in any given year.
That's not counting all the games against the Carolinas (N, S & E), Oregon St., Arizona, Colorado, K. State, and of course, Tulane.
It wasn't just "that one year".

No - I didn't mean they played bad schedules or they only had a good one that one year, I was specifically talking about years when teams played 3 elite teams and/or programs, something that NEVER happens today.

Jesus, you boys can twist shite around. I was replying to a poster that implied it was just Alabama.
So you also disagree with the Alabama fan who thought...?

Alabama set the mark for the league in older days
So now the goal post has moved to...?

Back in the day almost everyone played better OOC schedules
Y'all sure have a disagreeable way of agreeing with me.

Thanks, George.
I don't often pay attention to who is what around here. Everyone thinks they're some kind of internet personality, but I wouldn't know.

But to argue Saban hasn't tried to bolster Alabama's schedule is ignoring a lot of the evidence out there.
“a lot of the evidence out there”
The evidence is in bama’s schedule.
Period.

We've played 2 OOC P5 opponents in one season since Saban's been here.
I stand corrected. We played the mighty Duke Blue Devils in the same year Penn State came to Tuscaloosa. Both games were scheduled prior to Saban's arrival at Alabama. And of course Saban tried his hardest to get the road trip to Duke moved to Charlotte but Duke wouldn't budge.

Historically these have been good programs.
Yep. But the boogs and tinfoil hat wearing LSU fans would rather wait till the season starts, see which teams are looking top tier, and then call Bama out for not playing them.

Alabama set the mark for the league in older days by playing the powerful Southern California Trojans ...home and home.
A one-off is NOT a "home and home", in case you were a gumptard.
Alabama played AT USCw, no it was not a home and home, Alabama went THERE.
However I will let you look at this, series records for both

and remember that Alabama played against top teams in bowls (in fact every NC year for Alabama it ended in a bowl game)

Why on earth do people think that over 100 FBS college football teams are going to give up the revenue of the 12th football game so that the few elites can have an extra playoff game?
Everyone always thinks about the few teams at the top. It will be the proverbial cold day in hell before the 100+ teams not named Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, etc, would ever cut the season. No one ever thinks about them.

From 1975 to 1991 Alabama played
Missouri-2
Clemson-1
Washington- 2
Notre Dame- 4
Nebraska-2
USCw- 2
Georgia Tech- 6
Penn State- 10
Boston College- 2
TexasAm- 2
And that is not counting games like you mentioned LSU had played. Alabama played Baylor, Rutgers, Louisville, Miami, Clemson, etc.
