It's probably better in Boaz. Authentic Italian food is not very good.
Leave the food comas in Italy to the rest of us then.

Alabama has some of the best BBQ in the country and the white sauce is just a cherry on top.
Alabama does have great bbq spots.
White sauce is best on smoked chicken. It is what it's intended for. But, the commercial stuff is thick and gross, and few restaurants make it well either.
Homemade 1-2 cup ration of heinz apple cider vinegar to mayo mix, half fresh squeezed lemon (some use 1/2 tbsp lemon pepper seasoning but I don't like that) mix well until smooth and taste. Add more vinegar splashes or mayo to taste. Place in refrigerator over night (magic happens from the flavors mixing overnight). Mix well again and finish off the chicken on grill by basting it on. Drizzle on top of finished chicken or dip. It's delicious. I add a tbsp of McCormicks bbq seasoning to mine as well in the mix (gives it a reddish/pink look and smokie flavor) It's pretty damn good. But, again, meant for chicken.

Alabama white sauce is actually only for hush puppies. You dumbasses are doing it wrong.

I doubt any of you have had real authentic Italian food. The American versions of the dishes are almost always better, and that is most likely what you've had.

Where have you had an "authentic" Italian dish? What dish was it? Why was it better than what you can get in America?
Because every time I see people saying this shite, it's just because they assume it and not because it's legit.
Authentic bologense sauce? Tastes almost like a vegetable soup. Good sauce needs a little sugar, but if you put sugar in it, then it's not authentic. You get some sweetness from the carrots, but no where near enough. Oregano in it? No longer authentic. Garlic in your bologense sauce? No longer authentic.
Real authentic Italian food is simple and I find it lacking. Good Italian food has been elevated beyond "authentic".
Authentic is just marketing bullshite. Restaurants often throw it on there for marketing, but then they don't do it the authentic way because they would go out of business.
American versions of Italian food is almost always better.

Except for the summer I spent in Italy.

In Italy
But if you’re talking about fake stuff being advertised as such here, then yes you’re on target

Stationed in Italy and Buenos Aires (huge Italian influence so much their Spanish sounds Italian) and 3rd generation Italian on my mother's side (both sets of great grandparents moved here from Sicily in the mid-1910s with their families)
Authentic is different from American because Americans "Americanize" things, which is not intended to be a slight. Both are good, but they're very different. Not really comparable. It's a matter of preference. Some like what they grew up with and some think "authentic" is better.
I like authentic street tacos, but I also like a soft shell taco bell supreme. That is essentially the difference in American style Italian to authentic Italian.

I agree 100%. It's like the bolognese sauce. The authentic is a very good, but it's way more like a vegetable soup/stew. And I can basically eat the sauce by itself, I don't even need the pasta. But I do like the american version with sugar and other spices added more(especially oregano). However, I would not enjoy eating that sauce by itself as much, it needs the pasta.
When I eat at places that claim to be authentic, they never have authentic. It's always got extra spices, sugars etc. Which is fine, again I prefer it. But it bugs me that they call it authentic.

Ok what dishes did you think were better than the American versions, and why?
Also, do you consider all food in Italy to be authentic by default?

People put white sauce on BBQ? I thought it was chicken only.
There’s a restaurant here in Ocean Springs called Knuckleheads and they put it on shrimp. That stuff is absolute fire! I eat it about once a week.

Wow, we agree.
Slathering 95% mayo on something and calling it “Alabama white sauce” is horrific
