Looking at the resumes... Home/Road, opponents record, and type of opponent

Minnesota (9-0):

Home (6-0)
W (7-3) FCS
W (5-4) Group of 5
W (6-4) Conference
W (4-5) Conference
W (3-7) Conference
W (8-1) Conference

Road (3-0)
W (4-5) Group of 5
W (4-6) Conference
W (2-7) Conference

Penn St (8-1):

Home (5-0)
W (4-6) Group of 5
W (5-4) Group of 5
W (6-3) Power 5
W (4-6) Conference
W (7-2) Conference

Road (3-1)
W (3-7) Conference
W (6-3) Conference
W (4-5) Conference
L (9-0) Conference

Alabama (8-1):

Home (5-1)
W (0-9) Group of 5
W (6-3) Group of 5
W (4-6) Conference
W (5-5) Conference
W (2-8) Conference
L (9-0) Conference

Road (2-0)
W (4-6) Conference
W (6-3) Conference

Neutral (1-0)
W (4-5) Power 5

I think you can really throw out any results against FCS/Group of 5 teams and teams with losing records. As long as they are wins (which they all are in this case), they do not matter for the purposes of evaluating a team's strength. A true contender should win those games, so you don't get a pat on the back for doing so.

- Minnesota has by far the best win of any of the 3 teams with their win over an 8-1 conference opponent
- Minnesota is the only undefeated team
- Penn St has a win over a 7-2 conference opponent
- Penn St has the only non-conference win of any merit, facing a 6-3 Power 5 team
- Penn St has a quality road win over a 6-3 conference opponent
- Penn St's one loss came to an undefeated team on the road
- Alabama has a quality win on the road over a 6-3 conference opponent
- Alabama's one loss came to an undefeated team at home

All this to say... These resumes should absolutely remain fluid. If Minnesota's opponents go on to suck, they should get knocked for it. If Alabama's opponents go on to win more games, they should get credit for it... However, as of today, I don't think anyone could argue that Alabama has PROVED more on the field than the other 2 teams. When they are eventually ranked #4 tonight and Minnesota is ranked #10 or something ridiculous, it will be SOLELY based on the committees perception that they are a good team based on the "eyeball test" which is the biggest joke in sports... If you want to play the games, the games HAVE to matter for something.

Why does college football do this to themselves in the first place? Why is the scheduling not standardized across the sport?... Thats a rant for another day.

Can't prove you wrong but the committee will.

Eye-test and they "pass" it

All undefeated teams should be ahead of all one loss teams at this point.

Bama has only played 3 teams with winning records and lost to one of them in their own backyard. Terrible resume.

Minnesota should absolutely be ahead of us.

Penn State - I think you're kind of splitting hairs. I honestly wouldn't be surprised or upset being in front of or behind them in the rankings.

My best guess so far is:
1. LSU
2. Ohio State
3. Clemson
4. Minnesota (though I think Minn should be ahead of Clemson due to the SOS argument)

Next 6:
5. Baylor
6. Oregon
7. Penn State
8. Alabama
9. Georgia
10. Oklahoma

That's my guess at the rankings when they come out. OSU might still get the nod at #1, but I don't see how they could justify it (not that it matters in the long run). I think Oregon should be the first among the 1-loss teams. Their loss came against a quality opponent and they have a decent SOS. Alabama and Penn State have the "best loss" but not a lot to go along with it. Oklahoma has a bad loss and scant few decent wins, especially with Texas bottoming out now.

Sounds about right. Why are you so focused on Alabama though?

Based on what they’ve done, they should be #15ish.

They’ll be #4 or #5 based on the “eye test”. Their fans will celebrate like they have a chance - and then they get jumped after conference championships.

Massive meltdown.

Book. It.

I agree as well. Although, they will likely be in the 8-10 range for some strange reason. The committee won't be so quick to say they were so wrong. The committee knows they still have Wisconin and Iowa games coming up to either validate their previous opinion or validate moving them up even more.

Yeah, though in a way - keeping Minnesota that low will just prove that they were wrong about Penn State instead.

Because my team has locked in the #1 spot when we go undefeated. Trying to figure out who deserves to lose to us in the first round of playoffs.

Minny should be 4, but we will see if the committee has the balls.

Agree if you look at quality wins, however, Bama is still a better team. Can't prove it but I bet they are double digit favorites over either.

I love the bama "y'all scared" narrative after we ran you off your own field.

I think Clyde just scored again.
