contribution or close to it because they didn't like the donor's meddling. Basically telling him they don't need his money. Or his meddling. I'd tell you why they can do that but I'd have to silence you afterward. Seriously the campus looks like a massive construction site. And the school is buying up every piece of property near by. Helps to have an alum and huge fan and Tuscaloosa native as chair of the Senate Appropriations committee probably. And the hire of the president who blew all this up and recruited all those out of state students paying out of state tuition didn't hurt. Just a couple of wild arse guesses.

I’m really glad Auburn’s booster don’t meddle with everything and try to be too involved. Very hands off in my opinion.

Absolutely. Meddling has never been an issue with us and never will.

That’s great that y’all can do that.

A&M has that same feeling of constant construction. It’s been like that for well over a decade. I stay in the new hote on campus and was completely blown away.

We have money to burn, unlike the rest of the conference!

We're pretty much Pablo Escobar.

I'm quite certain Bama could use $100 Million. They could at least apply some of this to tuition.

$100M / 30 K students = over $3000/ student. Would be quite handy.

A&M has a legacy of oil that blows away most. Alabama was just a sleepy campus with a beautiful quad, some old historic Civil war buildings and an old south Greek system and one hell of a football program when I passed thru there many moons ago. It was still pretty quaint when my oldest attended. But then they hired the guy from Texas Arlington (I believe) and for the building, enrollment and bread rolling into the school he was like hiring Paul Bryant or Nick Saban was to the football program. It has just blown up. But I think Richard Shelby may have helped. Politics and leadership.

Frankly all that growth has come at a price in some ways. It's like the school has gotten a little disjointed from the state it is supposed to be primarily serving. Fact of the business I know it has. We discouraged our youngest a few years back who took the hint and went elsewhere.

Think it was more like $78M. And yeah they cut the donor a check for the $20M he had already sent them on the $78 pledge and sent it back then removed his name from the building named after him. The donor was Hugh Culverhouse Jr. He was trying to get kids of friends admitted to law school, etc. Son of the owner of the Tampa Bay Bucks. His dad gave the school several hundred million.

The University of Alabama has a $1.4 billion endowment, up $100 million YoY.

Currently undertaking $400 million worth of construction projects.

UA construction

more UA construction to be completed in 2019.

And that number doesn't include a new Tutwiler Hall, which itself will be $124 million.

My favorite project is the new performing arts and welcome center on the 200 acres of Bryce property adjacent to campus that UA purchased a few years ago.
(The big blank spot on this map).

And also Hewson Hall. Name after UA Alum Marrilyn Hewson on after she donated $15 million. She's the CEO of Lockheed Martin and is named one of the 'Top 10 most Powerful Women in the World' by Forbes along the likes of German Chancellor Angela Merkel

Plus $600 million for athletic facilities.

Life is pretty good at UA.

So still behind several SEC schools and well behind A&M’s 13.5 billion.

Not to mention that is the system's endowment, not the University specifically.

The University's endowment is around $886M.

That's actually how it works. It's a single endowment and not autonomous within a certain endowment. The YoY change is due to market performance or interest on investable assets.

Official list of endowments:

Texas A&M U. system and foundations - $13,524,947,000

Vanderbilt U. - $4,608,461,000

U. of Florida Foundation - $1,734,661,000

U. of Missouri system - $1,675,019,000

U. of Alabama system - $1,451,750,000

U. of Kentucky - $1,361,246,000

U. of Tennessee - $1,298,212,000

U. of Georgia and related foundations - $1,274,343,000

U. of Arkansas Foundation - $1,199,303,000

Louisiana State U. system (all campuses) - $886,387,000

U. of South Carolina and affiliated foundations - $809,937,000

Auburn U. and Foundation - $778,163,000

U. of Mississippi Foundation - $713,129,000

Mississippi State U. and Foundation - $506,138,000

UF has a pretty significant building campaign going itself, with the university recently announcing $2.2 billion in projects over the next 5 to 10 years.
