2020 will make 4. All 3 of them have been absolute barnburners (the figurative good game kind, not the literal Auburn kind).

1994 - #9 Alabama 29 - #23 Georgia 28

1994 Alabama vs Georgia

Back and forth shootout between Jay Barker and Eric Zeier - Barker threw for 396 yards and 2 TDs while Zeier threw for 263 and 4 TDs. Georgia led 28-19 in the 4th but Alabama fought back and Michael Proctor made a 32-yard field goal with 72 seconds left to give Alabama the 29-28 win. Alabama finished 12-1, losing to Florida in the SECCG. Georgia finished 6-4-1.

2001 - #7 Georgia 27 - #22 Alabama 25

2002 Alabama - Georgia

The "Are You Man Enough?" game was defined by former Georgia player and Auburn coach Pat Dye's (RIP) mid-week comments that Georgia wasn't "man enough to beat Alabama".

quote:

"Georgia's (not) man enough to whip Alabama. That's exactly what I said and that's what I think" - Pat Dye, Monday before Game

It was about 100 degrees in October in Tuscaloosa. Once again, Georgia led by double digits in the 4th quarter (24-12) but Alabama went on a drive and scored a TD and on the next possession Charlie Pephrah jumped a stop route and stole the ball from Fred Gibson, running the other way for a INT return for a TD. Georgia punted, but got the ball back with 4 minutes left and went down the field before Billy Bennett nailed a 32-yard field goal to give Georgia the win 27-25.

These were probably the 2 best teams in the conference that year, but because of Alabama's probation, Arkansas represented the West in Atlanta and Georgia beat them 30-3 to win their first SEC Title since 1982.

2007 - #22 Georgia 26 - #16 Alabama 23

2007 - Alabama vs Georgia

Nick Saban's first year in Tuscaloosa was off to a good start with pedestrian wins over WCU and Vanderbilt and a thrilling win the week before over #16 Arkansas 41-38. Georgia had beaten Oklahoma State and Western Carolina but was still reeling a bit from a 16-12 home loss to South Carolina.

Georgia, as with most of these games, came out and took a double-digit lead early before Alabama tied it early in the 3rd quarter 10-10. Georgia then jumped out to another double-digit lead at 20-10 early in the 4th. Alabama cut it to 20-13 and then went on a 88 yard scoring drive capped by a John Parker Wilson TD run to tie the game at 20-20 with only 1 minute to play. Georgia then moved down the field into field goal range but missed a potential GW FG as time expired.

Alabama went 3 and out and settled for a 42 yard Leigh Tiffin FG before Matt Stafford hit Mikey Henderson on the Dawgs first play of OT for a 25 yard TD pass to win it 26-23.

Alabama finished an up and down season at 7-6. Georgia hit their stride after a loss to Tennessee and was as hot a team as there was in America in November. They finished the season #2, 11-2 and hammered #10 Hawaii 41-10 in the Sugar Bowl.

Here is to hoping that the 2020 version of this game (a) happens at all, (b) happens in front of some fans and (c) lives up to the last 3 classics

That 94 game was one of the most fun nights of my life, and it ended early Sunday morning when someone knocked a beer bottle off an apartment patio and it landed on my girlfriend's head as we were walking to her apartment. Well, I guess technically it ended in the DCH emergency room to get her head stitched up.

Also, you have the score wrong in that 94 game. Final was 29-28.

And that Sugar Bowl was not as close as the score indicated.

Beating the frick out of that little punk Colt Brennan felt so good.

I honestly think UGA was the best team by the end of that season.

One of the first big games I went to with my Dad. We hardly went to big games when we were kids, they would take us to see a game at Legion Field to see someone like Cincinnati, Houston, or La Tech. It wasn't until my sister was at Alabama that we started going to games in Tuscaloosa.

I was younger then, a few years out of grad school, and we spent the day drinking at different bars and tailgates. By the third quarter, and I'm not particularly proud of this, a lady in front of me turned around and told me to quit cussing in front of her boys. They looked to be around 10-12, so I don't know why she brought them to a night game in Tuscaloosa. But that is beside the point. When Bama tied it up late, that was one of the loudest stadiums I have been in. She had then decided that being part of the rowdy drunk crowd was ok, and turned around and high fived us, and her boys joined in as well. Only to see it slip away in overtime.

I was a high school kid at the 2002 game and in my last year of undergraduate school for the 2007 game. Both were great football games.

The 2002 game was awesome - tons of Georgia people came over, Gameday was there, both programs had some excitement in them (even though we were on probation). Tons of huge plays back and forth.

2007 - all I remember was thinking "no way we're gonna come back and do this again, right?" after the weekend before with Arkansas. It's hard for young people now to understand, but we all had such battered wife syndrome that we would lose games in the 4th quarter..........it took until the end of 2008 to finally shake that Shula era disease.

I'm pretty sure that 94 game was the first night game in Tuscaloosa since the 90 or 91 UGA game.

Home night games were a rarity back then, especially in Tuscaloosa.

They were also very loud. Listen to the crowd noise at those two Georgia games from the early-90s and you notice a big difference compared to today. And that was before the expansion that finally enclosed the west side of the stadium to bring seating capacity to roughly 85,000.

2002 game was unbelievably hot. I thought I was going to have a heat stroke.

The last night game in Tuscaloosa before these two was against Clemson in 1975.

Which makes it even funnier that they were absolutely throttled in Knoxville by a dogshit VOLS squad.

2007 was so much fun

Even though UGA didn’t win it all that year it was definitely the most memorable year for college football.

Translation, Alabama does not have a want to play the best in the east on a regular bases so they can pad their record.

Humm, I wonder how many times LSU has played Florida and Georgia at home since 1992?

We were supposed to play in Tuscaloosa in 2012 but expansion screwed everything up.

Still, it’s pretty ridiculous that we haven’t played there since 2007.

We have got to either go to nine conference games or do away with divisions. It should not take a dozen years to complete a home-and-home cycle.
