A troubling sign of the times: Auburn extends Pearl’s contract

If change is going to come, it must start with the schools and their coaches. Pearl was fired by Tennessee for breaking NCAA rules. He was just granted an extension by Auburn, which – not for the first time in school history – finds itself at the center of a storm over recruiting methods and player eligibility.

Auburn has decided that a winning coach is worth keeping, appearances be hanged. That’s not just Auburn Being Auburn. That’s college basketball being college basketball.

Spring practice is over, fall practice doesn't start til August, no baseball teams in the state are still in the postseason...honestly there just isn't a whole hell of a a lot to write about right now. Gotta come up with something I guess.

Ready for them to go belly-up. Their constant hit pieces are pretty sad.

Um, no. There's no storm since the players in question are cleared to play.

Auburn will get destroyed the next time he gets caught up on something. I think he is a great coach, basically another version of Calipari, but AU does not make the NCAA as visible as Kentucky.

He should go to the NBA.

Why?

He enjoys College Basketball and enjoys Auburn. What exactly has he done wrong? A BBQ that is now legal under new rules?

Bruce is good for Auburn Basketball. Their new President & AD know a good thing when they see it and they rightly extended his contract.

After the season he had last year and the studs he's got returning, it was a no-brainer. You ride that horse till he collapses, period.

Why AJC continues to employ Jeff Schultz and Mark Bradley is beyond me.

I'm not just saying that because neither like Auburn (both hate Auburn), but because most of this board probably has no idea who they are despite being long time writers for the biggest newspaper in the deep south.

They're never on radio or TV, their shite never gets picked up nationally, they just tread water at AJC getting minimal clicks until they find an angle to pick out some regional fan base to get riled up.

I assume in this day there are tons of sports journos out there looking for work in what may be a dying industry. The Athletic's Atlanta coverage can't start soon enough.
