It applies to all forms of communication but only applies to certain entities. TV media is not one. Only healthcare providers or quasi health care providers.

You get aids from doing nasty shite most of the time. That's why there's backlash.

I'm pretty sure that HIPAA doesn't apply to the media. They aren't medical professionals. It isn't their responsibility to keep medical records private.

They are really POS for saying that on air though.

I'll admit it sounds funny to just give a shout out to someone in the stand with aids but I hear sob stories about players and their families with diseases all the time. Is Aids completely off the table for this kind of thing.

I'm not socially open enough to want to hear, nor caring to hear, about a players moms struggle with AIDS. I'm still depressed from yesterday. shite like that could push me over the edge

Why not? Modern medicine does a pretty good job of keeping AIDS in check.

Before dying, my uncle lived with AIDS for 10 years and that was in the 90's

Has anyone considered that she is open about it and her son uses his football spotlight to raise awareness for her disease?

A lot of Herp Derp in this thread over this one.

Eli Rogers has talked publicly about his Mom's illness.

WDRB Eric Crawford's Story about it from September

quote:

"She has AIDS," Rogers told WDRB's Pat Doney. "Has had it since I was eight years old. And it's been pretty tough on me because, you know, like, her mindset is not in a normal mind state so she goes in and out and she'll talk about different things, and it just bothers me sometimes, but I've grown and learned how to deal with it."

For stability, Rogers sought Bridgewater. The two already had a bond formed on the football field, and were seen often together at the home of one or the other. But during this time of crisis Rogers says the route he ran to Bridgewater's home altered the course of his life.

"We stayed together," Rogers said. "My mom was going through some things, my family was going through some things and I didn't want to be in the mix of that, because I probably wouldn't be here today."

Obviously if the announcers know, but it was still a strange moment in football coverage. very awkward minute or so.

So the Louisville player's mom has AIDS, Bridgewater's mom has cancer, and the announcer has a metal hip.

I also see many cases of male-pattern baldness.

This is my point. It is completely irrelevant and awkward to announce that in between plays during a BCS bowl game.
