.aggy school newspaper states that aggy is going to have a “crack football team” this year

The problem is, is that this quote as made in 1894. I not sure what the aggy definition of “crack” is/was.
Here’s the quote from 1894: In February of that year the school paper, The College Journal, proclaimed the institution now "boasts a crack football team."
