That's probably the case. Mainieri didn't really specialize in pitching or hitting and he didn't recruit either. So, keeping Cain on as a paid coach really put a strain on our staff IMO.

Then he’d be doing exactly what he did at LSU. With only two paid assistants allowed on staff, that grew tiresome for LSU fans using one of those spots on a guy that doesn’t really coach

I found this to be odd...

Seems like your drawing a conclusion that fits what you want. Almost all the time new head coaches hire their own staff.
A lot of the old guard Bertman/Mainieri supporters really liked Cain. Those are the same folks pushing hard for Bianco.
Obviously just guessing here but it seems like Bianco would keep a guy that his supporters also support, is also a fellow former Tiger, and has proven to be a great recruiter.

Does he have more of a pitching, hitting, running or defense focus?

Looks to be an LSU situation. Either the pitching or hitting coach will have to be a volunteer assistant.

Pitching is expected to be Yeskie from AZ and was under Casey at OSU.

He specializes more in the 3rd base coach role. He is a master at when to send runners home and when to hold them on the bag. Great get ! Gig em
