I’ve never seen him put together a class like this and definitely not before the seasons even started. With that being said if the season goes down the shitter I’m sure a few will jump shite but for the most part he’s gotten players to like the school and not only the coaching staff so I expect most to stay even with a bad season.

Say what you will about the Gus Bus but he can recruit his wide behind off.

Partly I think its that his time as a HS coach helps him relate to the coaches he deals with. Partly its that he knows he has to have the horses to hang with Bama so he hires solid recruiters for his staff.

The only thing that really holds him back in recruiting and in game coaching is that he can be as stubborn as a mule. Sometimes he will keep calling a play that isn't working or he'll go after a QB that is horrible fit for his offense.

Even though our team may be mediocre this year, I’m really stoked because most of those same players will probably not transfer or leave early but stay around for next year.

You will finish between 10 and 15 in the recruiting rankings like every year.

Will be curious to see what Auburn brass does if he’s sitting at 8-4/7-5 at the end of the year but has a top 5 class.

With Georgia and Alabama being away games in 2020 and having LSU the week before Bama, it wouldn’t surprise me for us to retain him so that the next coach can have a roster with talent and a favorable schedule in year one.

You think one of the Frosh QBs will transfer after this year?

Nah.

And if we go 7-5 with the #5 class Gus will be back.

I think if either transfers it’ll be gatewood. But even then I think he’d stay a year and if Bo does well he’ll see it’s probably best for him to leave. If Joey starts I don’t think Bo will have a problem waiting his turn, he’s been an Auburn fan his whole life and is following in his dads footsteps, his dad also waited his turn so everything leads me to think bo won’t be transferring

Not so much expectations just sayin if they do happen to have a bad season Gus did well selling the school instead of just the coaches or what the recruit wants to hear

This is the variable I did not see coming. A month ago I guaranteed Malzahn was gone if he didn’t win 9 or more this year, that 7&8 wins was more of the same. But with a top 5 class 8 may do it, I would still bet 7 gets him the door because next year will not be any better after losing entire OL, DL and 3/4s of Secondary.

Gus actually took some chances hiring former players onto the staff but it’s worjed out wonderfully. Kodi Burns has a great WR class, Travis Williams has a great LB class, Cadillac just landed a top RB, Garner always closes out with some pretty good recruits, then he added McGriff and Woodson to recruit DBs. That’s a pretty good staff he put together with any big name coaches really.

Oline will be fine next year. The juco tackles will start immediately. Nick Brahms is good and has starting experience. Brodarious Hamm is already pushing for a starting spot in 2 different positions plus Tashawn Manning and Keiondre Jones are goin to be good guards both have a mean streak. That group has potential to be good but I don’t see them struggling even if they aren’t the top Oline in the conference they’ll be solid. The Dline will return Truesdell and likley Big Kat and TD. Add in Newkirk will be healthy finally and Coynis will probably be a stater. Jaran Handy, Charles Moore, Derrick Hall, Colby Wooden etc will provide depth just like they will this season. As for the secondary. Noah could return unless he has a big year. The juco corner will start immediately and he’s pretty good and if they land the other juco dB he’s likely to start as well and we know smoke and jamien are the future at safety. There’s no guarantee these groups will be good but it’s not as bad a ppl think

it's my hope that Joey wins the job outright prior to the season, but Gustav takes advantage of the redshirt rules and Bo gets plenty of work in the first 3 games to get a feel for what live games are like at the his level. Bring Sandberg in for mopup duty the rest of the way.

Of course this is Gustav we're talking about, so logical utilization of player personnel is probably not a priority

I hope you’re right, the DL will be fine but going from the best in CFB to 25th is still a huge drop off. There is a lot of talent on the 2 deep at buck and DE.

OL I’m not sold on as much, there are always growing pains but luckily we start next season off slower than the past 15-20 years. I think we win those first two games with or without good to great OL play. Our weapons will be elite offensively with everyone in their JR year. Hopefully QB play is seasoned as well with healthy competition.

Hopefully we have an Owen Pappoe type player again that can immediately impact the back 7 of the defense.

Yes I heard that’s the exact plan if Joey starts. To get bo playing time until the redshirt rule comes into play, it’s why he’s also depending on cord to improve, so he won’t have to burn Nix’s redshirt unless he just has to
