The Athens P.D. look for reasons to arrest players.

Pruitt is an idiot because that’s not true

Shite, I think Athens popo has an office pool of some sort. We kicked out a 5* freshman starter for "pot residue" a few years back. I'm not making that up.

If that quote is really factual, true and provable ... then UTk is foolish to keep him around.
He needs to go or he'll tear down UTk football to the ground. It will be irredeemable by the end of his tenure.

Who and was that the only thing that happened?

Josh Harvey-Clemons. RA smelled pot, of course called police (as that was the culture then). Found no pot but found "pot residue", whatever the hell that is. As far as I know that was it.

But "pot residue"? Not sure I've seen that happen anywhere else.

He wasnt arrested and the police even called the coaches. HE was kicked off because it was his third drug offense with the school.
quote:
During the search, police found a digital scale in one of Flournoy-Smith drawers was and a plastic bag was located in a bathroom trash can that contained “a barely visible flake of possible marijuana.” Police advised the two players there was “no physical evidence to support prosecution” on marijuana possession charges. However, they were told the incident would be documented and turned over to the UGA’s Office of Student Conduct.

You are missing a lot of context here.
Banks was never informed a warrant was issued for his arrest. Perhaps Pruitt was talking about the state of Tennessee not informing people warrants were taken out for their arrest?
Full transcipt:
quote:
UTPD OFFICER:
THAT'S WHERE WE'RE AT NOW.
COACH JEREMY PRUITT:
SO WHY DO YOU ALL ... WHY ... I MEAN, WHY DO YOU HAVE TO ARREST HIM? JUST BECAUSE HE'S GOT A WARRANT?
UTPD OFFICER:
BECAUSE THAT'S ... THE STATE OF TENNESSEE IS THE ONE WHO ISSUED THE WARRANT SO I HAVE TO TAKE HIM IN FOR THAT WARRANT. I HAVE ... LIKE I SAY I HAVE NO CHOICE ABOUT THAT. IF IT WAS JUST A SUSPENDED LICENSE I CAN HAVE DISCRETION ON THAT, BUT SINCE THERE IS A WARRANT OUT FOR HIS ARREST I HAVE NO DISCRETION ON THAT.
COACH JEREMY PRUITT:
DOES IT SAY WHEN THE WARRANT WAS ISSUED?
UTPD OFFICER:
NAH .. NO SIR. IT JUST SAYS THAT THERE IS A WARRANT FOR HIS ARREST.
COACH JEREMY PRUITT:
THIS IS THE SILLIEST **** I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE ... I GOT IT, I UNDERSTAND. I'VE WORKED AT 4 PLACES THEY NEVER HAD NO CRAP LIKE THIS EXCEPT FOR HERE BECAUSE THE PEOPLE USUALLY SAY, 'HEY, SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT HERE.'
UTPD OFFICER:
LIKE I SAID SIR I DON'T KNOW IF THEY SENT HIM NOTIFICATION. USUALLY THEY WILL SEND NOTIFICATION OR WHATEVER WHEN HE IS SUPPOSED TO APPEAR IN COURT ON THE TICKET. IF HE DOES NOT APPEAR IN COURT THEY WILL PUT A WARRANT FOR YOUR ARREST. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TICKET ...
COACH JEREMY PRUITT:
I GET THAT. I GET ... I UNDERSTAND THAT, ALRIGHT. BUT SOME OF THESE KIDS, THEY DON'T HAVE NOBODY AT HOME TO TEACH THEM HOW TO DO STUFF SO IF SOMETHING HAPPENS PEOPLE NOTIFY SO YOU CAN TEACH THEM HOW TO DO IT. SO ... I GET IT.
KIDS GOT TO LEAD HIS WHOLE LIFE
GO AHEAD. DO YOUR CIVIC DUTY MAN.
UTPD OFFICER:
APPRECIATE IT COACH.

Unfortunately he knows as much about how warrants work as he does asparagus.

Is it normal for police to call the Head ball coach when arresting a player?
Hopefully BRPD has similar protocol
