For what, keg lifting?

Stats, no championships, marginal # of wins.

He's third on a list of Greene, Murray, Stafford.

I thought after his freshman year that Murray would go down as the greatest UGA QB ever. Barring a terrible injury, he'll shatter every SEC passing record and has the potential to do something big this year (just like every year). That said, seeing him struggle in big games sucks. I'll stand up for him on the grounds that he's been the sole constant on this offense during his career because of all the suspensions, graduations, etc. The fact remains though - he struggles in the big games.

All things equal, I'd take Greene over Murray. Love Murray, he's a great kid and great QB but he's got a lot to prove IMO.

Did you forget your D and oline sucked balls. Sugar bowl win and number 2 ranking and first overall draft pick...i guess moreno wasnt good either since he has no rings... Its a team game

Aaron Murray vs. David Greene......What's the consensus?

If Murray breaks all the records, but still doesn't win at least an SEC championship next year, then Greene will always be above Murray on "the list".

No question.

I just watched the 2001 TN vs. UGA "hobnail boot" game on SPorts South the other night. To this day, as a senior, Murray has yet to really win a big game like that. Greene, on the other hand, was a redshirt freshman in only his 4th game as a starter when he won that one. And it was far from his last big win.......

No. And I certainly didn't forget twice.

Bottom line, is that although he was very talented, he never really endeared himself to me as a GA fan.

And although I can't blame him for leaving early, that didn't help his cause.

Wow. Were you in a hurry to make another comment before the class bell rang?

Murray is more talented than D.Greene was, but at the end of the day I'd take Greene. He was clutch and you can't really teach that.

Murray needs a marquee great win like Greene had at AU in 2002 or Bobo had at GT in 97.

Just seeing this thread, good topic.

Murray is far more talented, but there's no way you can answer this any other way than David Greene. When Greene we had kinda been wandering in the desert for a while, and were 20 years since our last SEC title. Greene got that massive win over UT in only his 4th game, so he got a signature, big time win pretty early. He also got us an SEC title in his 2nd year, won a lot of big games, and when he left he was the NCAA's all time winningest QB ever.

Murray will shatter every record we have, but as of now he still doesn't have an SEC title. Him and greene both won the east twice, and if Murray wins it again this year that will be awesome. But I think the biggest edge to Greene is his lack of turnovers. He didn't put up eye popping numbers like Murray is capable of, and he was a statue in the pocket, but you always felt comfortable with him back there because you knew he wasn't gonna make a stupid turnover. His playfakes were immaculate and he was the definition of a field general. Murray, even though he is more dynamic, has a tendency to make some bonehead moves every now and then.

I will say, and this isn't a 'negative' towards Greene because it's not his fault, that greene had some stellar defenses. Our 02 and 03 units were excellent, and 01 and 04 weren't bad either. There were many games where greene was as bland as toast, and some games where he was actually not even good, but our defense carried us. In those days we could win games by only scoring 13-17 points. Nowadays, it seems like we're having to outscore teams because our defenses have been relatively down.

As of right now, Greene. Much better in big games.

Greene was much more reliable and cool under pressure, but let's not forget a lot of those "big games" we won from 01-04 were due to the defense.

But I agree, there's no way it's not Greene right now. If Murray wins the SEC next year, I think you can maybe make a case. But it's weird, Greene still just kind of has that aura about him and what he accomplished that I don't even know if an SEC title would put Murray over him, even though Murray would have 3 easts to Greene's 2, both have 1 SECC, and Murray would break every record.

Aaron Murray, to me, is a lot like Eric Zeier. Cannon arm that will break a lot of records but is just not overly memorable.

No.

Zeier is the best QB I've ever seen at UGA. I know he doesn't compare with wins or championships(team stats), but if I'm starting an all GA team from the 90's to now, he's my QB, and it's not even close.

I think Murray is the better quarterback. Greene definitely with the edge at play action.

That's not a bad comparison, but Murray's UGA teams have been much better than Zeiers, and have actually accomplished something of note other than winning a citrus bowl.
