2014

quote:

Yes, that ring reads "Peach Bowl." That was the aforementioned New Year's Six game. You remember -- the one Ole Miss lost 42-3 to TCU in humiliating fashion.

Commemorating the Rebels' 2014 season is a terrific idea. Making a ring to honor it without winning so much as a divisional championship might be unusual, but given the unprecedented-in-the-modern era nature of said season in Oxford, hey, knock yourselves out, guys.

CBS Sports

2003

quote:

In 2003, Eli Manning was waking up the ghosts of past and leading Ole Miss to its first SEC Championship Game. All they had to do was beat LSU in Oxford. Ole Miss and Eli literally tripped over their own feet and LSU won, propelling it to the national title. For their effort, Ole Miss received a nice little 2003 SEC West co-champion banner to hang in the Vaught. LSU also received the banner but the Tiger’s version also included an SEC Championship trophy and a BCS Title.

SDS

1861

quote:

Their name "University Greys" derived from the gray color of the men's uniforms and from the fact that almost all of the Greys were students at the University of Mississippi. Nearly the entire student body (135 men) enlisted; only four students reported for classes in fall 1861, so few that the university closed temporarily...terrible cost of sustaining 100% casualties—every soldier was either killed or wounded.

University Grays

1848

quote:

Instead, “Ole Miss” was the name Mississippi’s slaves, who comprised well over half the state’s antebellum population, gave to the plantation mistress. This was no term of endearment: important research has shown the plantation women exercised incredible violence in their treatment of slaves, especially within the closed confines of the household where physical and emotional abuse went unrecorded. Like “Master,” “Ole Miss” represents to many members of our community cruelty, turmoil, anger and pain. - See more at: https://www.oxfordeagle.com/2015/09/10/ole-miss-is-a-derogatory-term/#sthash.8Hsg3jGw.dpuf

Making fun of the University Greys is much worse than people getting banned for mocking the Aggie bonfire. Those soldiers died at Gettysburg defending their country, and you are a pathetic human for trying to find humor in their deaths.

your school was founded because of hatred towards ole miss. That's the greatest example of little brother syndrome that there could possibly be.

You rushed the field against a our 8 win team.
You've never been to Atl.
You've never won 10 regular season games.
You haven't been ranked #1 since 1968.
You've never been to a Final Four.
You've never appeared in any National Championship game.
We have more SEC championships in 2/3 major sports.

You may have been big bro in the early going, but the roles have significantly switched sides in the last half decade.

Noticed none of those celebrations of failures were for the Egg Bowl series. We must really own that series

No humor found in their deaths, only just in the 4 cowards that tried to enroll in school when the others went to war. 139 total students minus 135 of your civil war heroes equals 4 cowards that went on to be the leaders of the university. No wonder you pricks are so mad.

That was for beating an 8 win, unranked team.

Ole Miss has always lived in the shadows of big bro.

Even in our bowl game losses last year, Ole Miss's horrendous display in the Peach Bowl was second only to our loss to Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl.

Each weeks opponent is on my mind for that week then it's on to the next. Not so much for you guys which might explain why we finish ahead of you in the SEC what seems like every year.

At the end of the day we'll always be the flagship and state will always be little brother. Ole miss is known for the mannings, the first family of football, state is known for being such redneck trash they ring cowbells at games. At the end of the day, we care more about beating lsu than beating miss state, it's just losing to miss state is the same level of embarrassment as losing to Memphis state.
